This is another retro come back for the big screen we have had the chipmunks now its them little blue guys with the catchy theme tune!! Theres only so much you can do with smurfs so they have expanded the story so they find a portal to earth, all a bit far fetched and ridiculously over the top but its for children and they love it so it does not matter, this is a bit cheesy in the way of acting from the human stars but the smurfs are pretty well computer generated from their exact likenesses from their early cartoon show and comic strips. A fun for young children film but not something you want to see over again!!
This is a really good family film, if your a smufs fan you wont be dissapointed its alot of fun. 9/10
For kids, this film will probably be good enough to keep them quiet for a while. As someone who grew up watching The Smurfs on tv, it was always a delight on a weekday morning before school. So, like everything in this world today, it was no surprise at the news of a CGI/live action film being packed with celebrity voice actors. Despite protests to get one of the original voice actors, the well known June Foray, the company couldn't give a damn because she wasn't 'famous enough'. So that ticked me off before I even saw it. I hate some of the CGI effects, especially when the live actors try and interact with them. The plot was pretty predictable, Katy Perry as Smurfette was annoying, and the only thing that really saved it for me was Hank Azaria as Gargamel and Frank Welker (another veteran voice actor) who only got to be in this film for his ability to make cat sound effects. Also I can't understand how the Smurfs are amazed by Google, and don't know what an internet is, but then suddenly have an 'Alvin and the chipmunks' moment and play guitar hero and seem to know the words to 'Walk this way' by Aerosmith with weird CGI effects here that were creepy more than anything. Rumour has it, there's 2 sequels on the way. Oh joy. *insert sarcasm here*
I have to admit when I first saw this advertised I thought it would a disaster movie but then I saw it advertised on one of the movie channels and thought I'd give it a watch. A have to say I was pleasantly surprised. It's just how I remembered the smurfs. It has a solid plot but is also a fun watch.
