I disinctly remember watching this film sat in my study with my older brother when I was very young. After it had finished I cried because the red bull really scared me - I must've been about 4 at the time!
But I am so glad that I have found it on DVD, hopefully I won't be scared of the bull anymore.

One of the most enchanting and beautifully told stories ever

I first watched The Last Unicorn when i was maybe about 12 years old. As it goes with children, I liked it because it was a nice cartoon. Then, about 5 years later I watched it again, and I have watched it many times since because I think this is truely the most enchanting and beautifully animated movie there is.
Based on the novel by Peter S. Beagle, this movie adaptation does not dismiss any of the originality and magic that the novel comprises. The narrative revolves around the last unicorn in the world who lives her life guarding her enchanted forest unitl the moment when she finds out that all the other unicorns in the world have been captured and imprisoned by King Haggard and his guardian beast the Red Bull. Saddened by the emptiness of the world, she leaves the safety of her forest to find and free the rest of her kind. On her way she encounters Schmendrick, the hapless magician, and Molly Grue, the wife of a thief. Driven by their sense of justice and their believe in the true magic of the world, they join the unicorn in her quest to defeat King Haggard and free the rest of her kin.
This movie is not made by Disney or Pixar but to be honest, in terms of animation and the heartfelt way in which it takes on the original storyline, it quite easily outranks a lot of the movies made by either. Beautifully accompanied by enchanting songs performed by America, this movie is bound to draw people of any generation who have a sense for the magical into its spell.
If you want to own only one animated movie, I would recommend buying The Last Unicorn. If you want to own two, buy it twice! It truely is that good!

I wore out my video of this film so was very pleased to able to buy it on dvd. I enjoyed it growing up and still watch it occasionally. Am looking forward to being able to share it with my daughter (one for a girls night in as daddy's not into cartoons). It's great to look at, fabulous soundtrack & lovely story.
