The television series based on Masamune Shirow's Manga and Mamoru Oshii's highly influental film, Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex takes viewers to a futuristic society where technology has saturated citizens' daily lives. Along with the new technology comes new types of crime that exploits it, but female cyborg Major Motoko Kusanagi and her team of police, Section 9, devote their lives to chasing criminals, both on land and in cyberspace.

The Laughing Man tells the story of the entire first season of Stand Alone Complex as a film.

I'm a huge Ghost in the Shell fan, and I love the SAC series'. So it's not surprising that I brought this DVD the second I heard about it. What is surprising, however, is the English audio on this DVD. For some reason it seems to have been re-recorded with a different voice cast. I watched the first half an hour, and had to stop- it's just not the same, and it brings down the experience harshly. Aramaki sounds like a Cowboy for crying out loud!

Save your money and buy the full series (which you can get for a decent price from Play). This is a bad representation of a usually fantastically voiced series. A real shame.

Poor copy of a great series!

I am a MASSIVE fan of the GITS series and films so got this on pre-order before i could read a review. I can't believe that they have not only badly re-dubbed the same footage from the series but they have cut it out of order and added parts from the series that were not relevant to the laughing man complex. Don't waste your money, get the series!

 Could have been ok.

I knew this was a chop job of the STC 1st gig series and it had the potencial to be ok as watching the series from start to finish, although brilliant is quite an epic task if you're pushed for viewing time. The problem with this is that it needed to be longer to include certain elements of the storyline to make sense. My main gripe though is the dub, it appears that none of the original voice actors have been used so if you're familiar with the series already then it just feels wrong. Save a liitle extra cash and buy the series.
