From one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the history of animated cinema comes the most acclaimed film of 2002, winner of the Golden Bear at Berlin and the 2003 Oscar for Best Animated Film and the highest grossing film in Japanese cinema history. Hayao Miyazaki's latest triumph, filled with astonishing animation and epic adventure, is a dazzling masterpiece for all ages.

A fantasy adventure film unlike any other, Spirited Away tells the story of Chihiro, a capricious, headstrong, 10 year-old girl, who believes the entire universe should submit to her every whim. Whilst en-route to a new home, Chihiro and her parents stumble on a mysterious cul-de-sac. Unwittingly they have strayed into the Land of the Spirits, a world inhabited by ancient gods and magical beings, ruled over by a demonic sorceress Yubaba. Finding an ally in the enigmatic Haku, he explains that in order to fight annihilation, to survive this strange and perilous new world, Chihiro must make herself useful, she must work. Chihiro renounces her laziness, her humanity, her reason, her memories, even her name...

This deluxe 2-disc set overflows with outstanding bonus features, including the Japanese television special about the making of the film, and a storyboard-to-finished scene comparison. The English language version on this disc is executive produced by Toy Story director John Lasseter and features the voices of Daveleigh Chase (Lilo and Stitch, The Ring), Michael Chiklis ("The Shield") and Lauren Holly (What Women Want). Spirited Away is a spectacular DVD the whole family will want to experience over and over again!
  • Full feature storyboard to finished film comparison
  • 'The Making Of Spirited Away' Nippon TV special
  • Japanese trailers and TV spots (with English subtitles)
  • Exclusive trailer for 'The Cat's Return'
  • Interactive menu
  • Scene access
  • Behind the Microphone - voice talent featurette

'Spirited Away, was THE film that finally made me sit up and pay attention to Studio Ghibli. As a big fan of Japanese anime I had previously been aware of their back-catalogue but never got round to watching them. But with all the acclaim and hype surrounding the release of 'Spirited Away' I realised that here was a film I owed it to myself to watch. And, thank God I decided to do so. This is a film that will blow you away, an animated gem that only goes to highlight the recent stale output of Walt Disney Studios. After endless so-so films, full of cute animal sidekicks, big star voice acting and cringe inducing songs this film came as a welcome breath of fresh air. Looking simply STUNNING and full of quirky, lovanble characters, top class animation and a wonderful story 'Spirited Away. truly opened my eyes to what animaiton can achieve. Since then I have purchased all of Ghibli's recently re-released back-catalogue and never have animated films enchanted me so much before. I truly recommend pretty much every one of their films but, if you've yet to experience any, what better way to start than with 'Spirited Away' a film that will captivate all the family, a true 'family film' the likes of which we see little of today. Never resorting to clever in-jokes, popular music or movie parodies this is a film that puts character first. A truly magical film. Thankyou Mr. Miyazaki....

 Greatest Fantasy Anime Ever

Spirited Away is an instant classic. Hayao Miyazaki should be proud that he has created such a masterpiece that will reside in the hearts of many people of all ages.
I am a huge Anime fan and I have to say this film is one of the best. But even if you are not an Anime fan I am sure that the magic will captivate you. This is definitely a great film to start off on the Studio Ghibli Collection. If you are a fan of the other films and you havent seen this one than I am 100 percent certain you will enjoy this.
This film is worth every penny at 6.99 and you'll be glad you purchased it. I would also recommend that you watch the films Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds.

Spirited Away lives in your memory forever!

My young nephews and nieces settled me down with them over the August Bank Holiday to watch 'Spirited Away', which I duly did to humour them, not having ever watched an Anime film before. As the film rolled I became increasingly transfixed and mesmerised.

This was no cutesy Disney cartoon but a deeply complex and beautifully intricately woven web of extraordinarily beautiful images with deep, dramatic undertones, resonances and subtexts. The image of 'No Face' in particular stays in my mind and decorates my dreams (in the nicest way possible), such was its vividness and dramatic reverberation, as does the journey of the train through the swampy everglades by night.

I recommend this film unreservedly to all, adults and children alike, and truly envy all those who will be watching it for the very first time. The quality of the imagery is unsurpassed and the storyline utterly compelling. The film received many awards, including the second Oscar ever awarded for Best Animated Feature, the first Anime film to win an Academy Award, also winning the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival. Oh, you lucky, lucky people, to be watching this extraordinary film for the first time!
