The third Star Trek series is led by Benjamin Sisko, commander of the space station Deep Space Nine, who discovers the first known stable wormhole, a virtual shortcut through space that leads from the Alpha Quadrant to the Gamma Quadrant on the other side of the galaxy. The Gamma Quadrant is governed by the Dominion, a group led by the Changelings - an group of shapeshifters which counts DS9 crew member Odo (Rene Auberjonois) among its numbers. The Dominion has become a violent force in the galaxy, and Deep Space Nine and its crew has become the only home in upholding the way of life established by the Federation.

If you understand how great this show is you will absolutely love it. I can't believe how everyone doesn't love such an amazing series, the last 4 seasons especially, but some people just watched the 1st 3 series and understandably didnt watch 4, 5, 6, and 7.
At the time it was on tv i was much more into voyager but now the 2 dont even compare. DS9 is Star Trek writing at its very best.

great writing , trek at its best

I used to watch ds9 when it was on tv and bought the videos as well. I decided to buy them on dvd (since i dont have a working video player). the story lines were i think the best on tv in general especially the dominion war in the last 2 seasons and the storylines as captain sisko as the emisary was very good.
Play.com have done it again dvd boxsets at good prices and since the rrp on the high street is £35 you cannot go wrong with £16.99 or the show

 cool box set 1
