Futurama: Season 5 (2 Discs)

Futurama is a great show and it was terrible that it was cancelled. when I heard it was back, like many people, I was thrilled. The show is just as good as ever with hilarious and brilliantly intriguing plots. The only reason I have taken a star off is because this only looks like half the series.... 15 episodes of 25ish. Why can't they release the whole season over here rather than annoying seperate releases. That is my only prolblem, but the shows here are great.

as a long time groening fan i had mixed feeling about buying this or even watching it, having watched simpsons become a joke i didnt want this to happen to futurama, so i bought it anyways. happily this has not been a disaster, the episode about the apps is a bit of a weak one but luckily the only one (unlike season 4) after the 4 films i was sceptical that they could top them and boy have they done that

Following a long hiatus (almost four years I believe!) Futurama made its long awaited return thanks to Comedy Central with four feature length episodes. While these episodes certainly had their humorous moments it quickly became clear that it was difficult to stretch Futurama's formula beyond the usual 22 minute running time. Fortunately the ratings success of these episodes has since lead to a full fifth, and now sixth, season.

Back to its usual length and free to create the types of crazy plots that only Futurama can the show has been able to pack in more laughs per minute making for a far more enjoyable experience. That being said these new episodes are certainly not as consistently funny as they were from 1999-2003. Episodes such as Attack of the Killer App and A Clockwork origin rival the best the show has ever offered demonstrating there is plenty of life left in Futurama yet but in between there are far more mediocre episodes than there were previously. Despite this I for one am certainly glad to see the return of the animated sci-fi comedy and look forward to season six.

What a treat it is to have Futurama back on our screens. It is still as sharp and fresh as ever. Fans will absolutely love it and even newbies will find something to laugh at.
