A boy who needs a friend finds a world that needs a hero in a land beyond imagination!

Bastian, a lonely schoolboy, alienated from his father and bullied by his classmates, retreats to an attic where he becomes engrossed in a book entitled "The Neverending Story." It is the tale of a magical kingdom named, appropriately, Fantasia, since it is a world born of human fantasies. Fantasia is being destroyed by great storms of Nothingness as mankind loses faith in the powers of imagination and fantasies die. Dangerously ill herself, Fantasia's youthful empress sends a handsome warrior on a quest to find a cure for both her and her kingdom. After encounters with flying dragons, swamp monsters and a vast assortment of other fantastic creatures, the young hero discovers that only a human boy can save Fantasia, at which point Bastian is drawn, literally, into the pages of the story.

Superb film, shame about the DVD

You should know this release is a straight copy of the American region 1 disc. The sound mix is Dolby 2.0 only, it is the American cut of the film (shorter than the German original) and there are very little in the way of extras. There is a German version that has both cuts of the film available (although it is now out of print so getting hold of one might prove difficult) unfortunately it has no English audio for the original cut and the sound mix is 2.0 only. There is also a Holland release of the American version but with a DTS soundtrack.

Considering next year will be the 25th anniversay of the films release I find it incredible that Warner decided to release
this travestey of a DVD now.

Five stars for the film but only one for the DVD. Shame on you Warner!

The never ending story.. What can i say that hasnt been written already. Everybody loves this film, great light hearted fantasy and spine tingling good,it has everything a childrens film should be like. I remember renting this out way back in 1984 every week and waited for years for the region 2 dvd release. Picture quality is good, but the sound is only 2.0 sound. And only extras is the trailer.. Considering it was widely advertised by warner home video, they could have put the effort into extras. Still worth the money though, and a great watch. Everyone knows the story by now,so buy it,sit back and enjoy with all the family.

 Finally!!!!
