DreamWorks' hilarious CGI animated match-up pits Monsters Vs. Aliens in a family-friendly battle of killer lines, slapstick action and sci-fi tomfoolery. Featuring the voice talent of Seth Rogen, Reese Witherspoon and Paul Rudd, prepare to laugh your way right through this cracking film.

A light-hearted comedy akin to Bee Movie or Madagascar, Monsters Vs. Aliens sees sweet Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon - Legally Blonde) hit by a meteorite containing a powerful substance called quantonium. The intergalactic fossil fuel turns Susan into a 50-foot tall giant and she is soon captured by the government and locked up with some other top secret monsters. When Aliens attack, it's this rabble of giants, freaks and insane geniuses who must save the world from the dastardly Gallaxhar (Rainn Wilson - Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen).

Play.com review

As the latest instalment from Dreamworks in their slugging match with fellow CGI mega-studio Pixar, Monsters vs. Aliens has much to live up to. Last year, Dreamworks' Kung Fu Panda went toe-to-toe with Pixar's colossally successful Wall-E, and this year Monsters Vs. Aliens faces the much-anticipated Up for computer-generated supremacy. Luckily, in this kind of fight there's only one winner: us!

With plenty of killer lines and slapstick action, the film is perfect for kids - both big and small - and like any Dreamworks production, there's more than enough plot to keep you gripped until the end. In fact, it's the perfect example of a present you'll buy for the kids - and end up keeping for yourself.

Starring the voice talent of Hugh Laurie (House), Kiefer Sutherland (24), Seth Rogen (Funny People, Observe And Report), Will Arnett (G-Force) and Paul Rudd (I Love You, Man), the film has all the comedy kicks you could ever want, and the script has enough dynamite to keep Alfred Nobel happy! As far as the Dreamworks/Pixar sparring goes, Monsters Vs. Aliens has done its bit - it's over to you Up!

 A BRILLIANT MONSTER MASH!

This is a really great family movie that the adults will enjoy just as much as the kids. This CGI movie is a loving and playful homage to all the 50' and 60's "B" movie monster flicks most notably The Blob, The Fly, The Creature From The Black Lagoon, Mothra and Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman. All are brought to life by some very impressive CGI and brilliant vocals from Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd and best of all Seth Rogan as Bob The Blob. The comedy is sharp with some great nods to classic Sci-fi movies including ET and Close Encounters that leads to an hysterical burst of Axel.F.
The movie has some outstanding action sequences that would even put Michael Bay to shame including a show stopping and very funny destruction of the Golden Gate bridge.
The DVD has lost the slight wow factor, as the cinema version I saw was in 3D, but this does not stop this from being one of the best family movies of the year, that can stand shoulder to shoulder with Pixar's masterly UP.
This film is fantastic treat, as both kids and adults will enjoy the jokes, and the film never fails to entertain.
Monsters Vs Aliens is bound to be one of the best family films of the year.
Outstanding Fun!

 Very Good

Bought this expecting quite a lot given that I am a huge fan of most of the voice-actors in it, and was not disappointed! The storyline is a little bit silly, but what do you really expect from a kids film!?
I'd say that the only down-side is the fact that usually the makers of animated movies put in a few double entendres or slightly risque references for the adults, but this film doesn't have too many of these, although it more than makes up for this with the action sequences which are spot on, as well as references to old horror and science fiction movies which would make any movie-connoisseur smile.
The voice actors all did a great job, Reese Witherspoon suprised me (I've never really been a huge fan) and is very good, and Seth Rogen as B.O.B is utterly hilarious! Overall I'd say it's more aimed at the kids this time, but is still very funny and will keep the adults amused too!

If you live near a cinema that shows this in 3D you MUST see it. The effects are amazing and the 3D feels like you are almost in the film itself. 3D films are going to go from strength to strength now. The storyline is predictable but never lose interest. Great family film.
