Johnny Depp is still as entertaning as in the first movie, and the lines are just as good. Unfortunately so much time is spent cramming in every single character from the first movie, that you're left yawning while Orlando, his skeletal girlfriend, et al take up valuable screen time, only perking up when Johnny is on-screen.
On its cinematic release 'Dead Man's Chest' recieved a huge amount of negative reviews - reviews I felt that were greatly undeserved. Though not reaching the majestic grandeur and sheer brilliance of the first film (though which sequels ever truly feel as fresh and exciting as the original) 'Dead Man's Chest' still has much to recommend it. Top of the list has to be Johnny Depp on fine form as the inimitable Jack Sparrow. Though not on screen for as long as the original film every moment spent in his company shines with comic brilliance and humour aplenty. The special effects are fantastic - the towering behemoth that is the Kraken (however you might pronounce it!) is an action highlight whilst Davey Jones is a monumental achievemnet in CGI animation. Seamlessly blending Bill Nighy's fantastic performance with state-of-the-art CGI effects results in one of the best CGI characters for years. The action rattles along nicely, Keira Knightley continues to look as lovely as ever, the darker aspects of the plot (Davey Jones fantastically fishy crew) are much welcome, the script is full of humour (Pintel and Ragetti are an amusing double act) and the ending is sure to leave all fans salivating at the prospect of the third film. If 'World's End' can manage to match, or even surpass, the enjoyment factor present in this sequel then we will be looking at a very fine trilogy indeed. All hail Captain Jack Sparrow...
Dead Man's Chest really is a brilliant step up from Curse of the Black Pearl, containing humour, action, adventure - exactly what you'd hope and expect to be included in a pirate film!
Johnny Depp gives an outstanding performance as the ever-witty Captain Jack Sparrow, Keira Knightley once again creates a beautiful masterpiece with Elisabeth Swann, and Orlando Bloom steps up his game from the first film, making his character Will Turner appear much more likeable in this film than he did in the first!
The exciting and fast-moving plot keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through, and the cliff hanger ending leaves the audience gagging to know what has happened to the beloved Captain Jack. Altogether this film acts as an epic adventure, suitable for most ages, and enjoyed by all!
Oh, and a quick word on the DVD extras - watch the blooper reel, it really had me laughing!!
This is probably my favorite film of all time it is the best out of the 3, The movie has fantastic cinematography and great music.
Pirates 2 develops the characters brilliantly and has a stunning and which will defiantly make you want to see the 3rd edition.
There are great performances by Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom. They all make the characters there own and all deserve the roles!! No matter what anyone says!!
Naomie Harris has the best character but doesn't really come a special part of the movie until pirates 3.
Gore Verbinski did a great job!!
This is a great gift for Christmas and is worth every penny of your money! And will defiantly not disappoint.
i am amazed to find that not everyone has seen this yet ?
it is not in my opinion as good as the 'black pearl '
but it really does not matter.
it's worth buying even if it's only to watch the humour
generated throughout the movie.
this is the first film i went to see at the cinema ( '2006' )
where as they apparently do in the u.s. at the end,the
audience applauded ( clapped ).
never expierienced it before or since.'that alone should
give a hint on how popular these films are for all ages.
power to the 'disney studios' another must have movie.
the new one is out in the cinema to go watch.
not as good again as the first or in fact the second,
but who cares when there's still so much to enjoy and
laugh at. ( hope they make a fourth,i'm sure they must )
' enjoy '
