Easily my favourite festive film of all time and quite possibly one of the most enchanting animated features in many a year. Tim Burton's vision literally jumps out of the screen with 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'. A cast of wonderfully realised characters, catchy musical numbers and the typical Burtonesque dark humour this story of Jack Skellington's attempts to bring Xmas to Halloween Town is a film all the family can enjoy and cherish for years to come. Eschewing the usual saccharine sweet tone of your typical Xmas film but maintaining a genuine heart under all the Gothic splendour this painstakingly produced stop-motion masterpiece is a film any self-respecting animation lover shouldn't miss out on. The DVD also includes two of Burton's short films 'Vincent' and 'Frankenweenie' - two animated gems that provide further proof that Burton is a true original, a visionary genius of incomparable creativity...
The story of Jack Skellington, the Pumkin King, is one of the sweetest kids fairytales ever. I was six years old the first time i seen this, in 1993 when it was released and I was hooked. I loved Jack and Sally and to this day, I watch The Nightmare before Christmas whenever I need to feel like a kid again. Tim Burton at his finest as a storyteller, doing what he does best, telling a simple story in his own gothic and fascinating way. The story is the simple tale of Jack, who is bored with his role as Halloweentown's star. He wants to leave behind the horror and search for something new. One night he finds a strange clearing in the woods and is magically drawn into Christmastown. With the help of his friends and Sally, his secret admirer, Jack decides he want to have a Christmas and they set about making one. The story is a basic "the grass is always greener" kids tale, so simple and sweet that you can watch it as a kid or adult and still get that warm glow after it. The film has an almost cult like following now, but for me it will always be the movie of my childhood.
im not a fan of christmas movies in general but i saw this when i was a kid and i just bought it on dvd and watched it again and its still brilliant now,the graphics look as good as something you would see of todays standard and its just all round a great movie and if you need a another reason its made by tim burton.so i recomend you buy it
This is one hell of a film/animation.
I watched it a few times on TV but wanted to own it on dvd, so i went ahead and bought it.
The CGI/Graphics are excellent and Tim Burton has done it again.
This is full of mystery, excitement, laughs and a few scares.
The scariest character (for me) was that weird looking duck in a wheelchair, he gave me the creeps!
My kids love this film and it just goes to show don't change who you are or what you know.
Best buys i have made for a while.
Also the songs throughout the film are fantastic it really gives it more atmosphere.
The music is amazing. There's no getting by that. You have to love every song, if This is Halloween and What's This? Will likely stand out the most. Plenty of fun characters, with spot on voices for them. This is dark, the place and people of Halloween aren't watered down, but they're aren't monsters. They are what they are, simple as, and that is the classic premise of this story. Jack wants to be something else and you know how this will turn out, not that that will put you off in any way. You will revel as the ghouls and witches of Halloween prepare for Christmas and the presents they create are very funny, but seeing Jack proclaim himself the Pumpkin King is a real highlight. A walking skeleton he may be, master of terror, but it is what he is and it is right and great. It would scare kids at times, most likely, but these are good scares, and much more fun and a very uplifting tale. This is the sort of movie kids should watch but adults must see it; it is too much fun not to. This will make you love Christmas, and monsters too.
