Hideki Satomi (Mikami), his wife Ayaka (Sakai) and their young daughter Nana (Inoue) are driving blissfully through the countryside when the workaholic Satomi stops at a roadside phone booth to send an e-mail from his laptop. In the booth he discovers a smudged scrap of newsprint with Nana's picture on it -- and an article describing her death in a traffic accident.

Three years later, Satomi has not recovered from his failure to prevent the accident, while his marriage has also ended. Meanwhile, Ayaka has joined forces with a psychological researcher (Ono) to unravel the mysteries of prophecy. They interview a psychic who has the ability to take Polaroids of the future with her mind - but becomes suspicious of the researchers' motives. Then another new "newspaper" arrives at Satomi's flat - saying that one of his students (Maki Horikita), a girl with piercing eyes and an uncanny presence, will die. Can he save her and himself?

Proof that Japan is the best for horror

The literallrally explosive openin of this disturbing, startling, thought provoking, intelligent psychologica-supernatural-thriller sets the pace for a nerve shredding, snowballing thrill ride.

Norio Tsuruta's unsettling tale takes the old proverb 'Knowledge is Power' and turns it on its head. Nothing can be less true in this movie.

Astoundingly directed, brilliantly cast and geniusly written 'Premonition' is a must buy for lovers of the horror and thriller genres. This movie proves that Japan does the best horror. With non-stop suspense mixed in with intriguing supernatural horror and the twisted ending that will astonish, surprise, shock and shake the viewer, 'Premonition' is the perfect movie, and one that has fast become in my top 10.

 Worth Watching

Premonition is the closest thing to horror Norio Tsuruta has produced to date, and it's an enjoyable, entertaining, well-paced movie with enough unique and effective horror elements to keep the viewer happy

Unlike the western remake thats recently been made, this is definatly worth watching.

Wow....just wow. This is a must have movie for all J horror fans!

It's better than the English one, but I love the way they make the film seem so real!

 A great little J-Horror gem

Maybe it was the fact that my expectations weren't very high for this film but I actually quite enjoyed this. Rather than relying on the quick jump and scare tactics this has a very chilling atmosphere throughout plus managed to tie up the story rather well. The only problems I had with the film was that it occasionally felt more like it was made-for-TV rather than a full feature length film and also the lead actor seemed to overact in a lot of his scenes.

Overall this isn't really anything new but does succeed in creating a spooky atmosphere as well as having an interesting story (for a horror film). The DVD has a pretty good picture with DTS sound as well a couple of interesting extra features.

- Although this has the same title as the Saundra Bullock film this was not remade even if both film touch on similar themes (which is kind of what you expect with both films having Premonition as their titles).
