Newlyweds Jamie (Kwanten) and Lisa Ashen have established a new life for themselves far from their hometown of Ravens Fair-a sleepy, near-forgotten blip on the map haunted by late-night whispers and ghost stories from generations past. But when his wife is gruesomely murdered, Jamie reluctantly returns to Ravens Fair for the funeral, intent on unraveling the mystery surrounding her death.

Once back under his family's roof, reunited with his ill father (Gunton) and his father's new young bride (Valletta), Jamie begins to explore the creepy town and encounters the legend of Mary Shaw, a famous murdered ventriloquist whose presence still casts a pall over Ravens Fair. As he is the lead suspect in his wife's murder, Jamie is forced to dig deep into the town's bloody past for answers, where he soon uncovers the truth behind the curse that ended Lisa's life and threatens to take his as well.

 Really good little horror

I think this is actually an under-rated little horror.

Jamie's wife dies horrifically just moments after a strange ventriloquist's dummy is left at their apartment. Returning to their hometown for her funeral, not only does he return home to find his father has a new wife, but he also learns the story of the life and death of Mary Shaw, a ventriloquist said to haunt the living with her strange doll 'Billy', and steal their tongues if they scream at the sight of her. Was his wife a victim of Mary Shaw, and if so, why?

It's done by the same guys as the original 'Saw' and it's packed with genuinely creepy moments using the doll 'Billy'. I find dolls to be very creepy anyway. but the doll in this is really disturbing looking. Atmosphere is well built, and some of the deaths (Jamie's wife, and a local undertaker in particular, have nerve-shredding build ups), all leading to a great finale in a ruined playhouse and a terrific final twist that makes perfect sense given the idea behind the film.

Well worth a look, in my opinion!!

beware the scare of mary shaw

this film is truly awesome!!! it isnt as scary as i thought it would be as pupppets scare the hell out of me... but it definately does have you checking over your shoulder alot to see if mary shaw is there!

has a very unexpected ending which makes it all the better! i would give it 10 stars if i could!!!!

just remember, whatever you do.... DONT SCREAM!!!!!!

Love it when a horror film scares me!

A ghost that posesses vertriloquist dummies, absolutly brilliant, saw it at the cinema it it did the job all horrors should do which is to scare me out of my wits, so creepy music when you know something bad is going to happen just dead...silence!
Obviously being form the makers of saw it is going to be brilliant with the exceptional twist at the end aswell as mary shaw scaring the life out of me a number of times which often in the case of horror films these days doesnt do justice to it, this film does though and a bargain at a fiver!

 Loved it!!

Yes, the acting was awful. Some of the scenes had me in stitches, as did the dolls. It had a twist ending, but it was a really stupid one! Nonetheless, I loved it!! It even made me jump at one point, which films never do. It's a sort of mix between Nightmare On Elm St. and Chucky. Ignore the bad reviews, you'll love it and it'll make you laugh too :)

 not bad!

I saw this accidentally once and had been wondering what it was called. Glad I found this! I'm a big horror buff and I will happily watch even the crappiest of horror movies for a laugh, but this was actually pretty good. I do remember it being spookier and slightly better written than most. Worth a watch if you're a fan of make-up effects and jumpy bits. :D
