Vampires and lycans, an ancient form of werewolf, are at war. While the vampires inhabit a gigantic castle that houses their ancestor's tombs, the lycans live underground in a dilapidated sewer cave. Both teams are equipped with big guns, and they are constantly innovating deadlier bullets to gain advantage over each other. On the vampire side, the leather-clad death agent Selene (Kate Beckinsale) delegates teams of vamps to attack the lycans. But when she discovers that the lycans have kidnapped a human medical student, Michael Corvin (Scott Speedman), she knows the worst is on its way. Against the orders of her superior, Kraven (Shane Brolly), who is obsessively in love with Selene, she awakens the most powerful vampire of all time, Viktor (Bill Nighy) and prepares for a massive feud against lycan leader Lucian (Michael Sheen)...

This is a fresh input on the vampire/werewolf (lycan) genre, this is like nothing you have ever seen before until now.

Kate Beckinsale takes the lead role as vampire (deathdealer) and she does it so well, she could not be more sexy if she tried, i wont get into the plot as its far to intricate but the plot is great, no other vampire movie has tackled something like this before with a good outcome that is, Scott Speedman, Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen also bring warmth to the film with their amazing acting skills, Bill Nighy's Victor is rather scary.

Its well worth a watch with non stop action and vampire VS werewolf fights and it also has a sequel thats just as good, check it out you wont be disappointed.

This is the first in the popular underworld series, a fantastic modern day story of vampires vs. werewolves (Lycans) this series is certainly one of the best of its kind when it comes to dealing with werewolves and vampires, a great dark gothic story with helpings of nightmarish effects and transformation scenes and the very sexy lead actress Kate Beckinsale who makes it all worth while, a great character who grows stronger throughout the story, this is a must in the horror section.

The set-up to the film, with the on going war between Vampies and Werewolves is great. The problem with the film is that it takes it's self way too seriouse. The film wants to be a cross between Romeo and Juliet and Blade, but never actually suceed's this is because of the pompus nature of the film. The Werewolves never frighten and the Vampire clans come across as squabbling arastocrats. Also the plot ties it's self up with the vampire and werewolf conflict back story. Where the film should amaze us, it only manages to midley entertain But what action there is does dazzle, and Kate Beckinsales does make a great and oh so sexy Vampire, and fits the leather outfits even better than Cat woman.
The film is never earth shattering, but does entertain for it's running time.

This movie will open your eyes!
Among other things this movie takes perfect use of the lighting and stays completely on its course dedicating itself fully to the world it depicts!
While watching you will get sucked into the action breathing only when they allow you to!

In other words, one of the best movies ever made!
