Resident Evil 1 - 4 Box Set: Resident Evil / Apocalypse / Extinction / Afterlife (4 Discs)

You don't watch these movies expecting cohrent plotting of brilliant acting. The funny thing about these movies is you could actually watch them in any order and they still make as much sense as if they would if you watched them in order. In fact if you wanted to be picky you could say they were pretty dire, but that is missing the point of the series.
Based on the gobsmackingly popular console game series the films set out to be nothing but a flashy bit of survival horror that manages to throw in a bit of sci-fi, virus of the week zombie raveged end of days, it's all a bit mental, but is actually great fun.
Resident Evil (2002)
The surprise hit that spawned all the sequels. was hated by critics but loved by the viewer. it's very flashy, very shallow but actually very good and still the best of the series.

Resident Evil Apocalypse (2004)
Starts where the first left off where the virus has become global.
The acting is dire and the plotting even worse, but with so much monster mayhem it's still enjoyable with a pack of beer and pizza kind of way.

Resident Evil Extinction (2007)
The end of days days has come and it all looks a bit Mad Max.
Directed by the guy who made Highlander this movie has some gobsmaking images of a desert covered Las Vagas and as usual plenty of zombie slaughter.

Resident Evil Afterlife. (2010)
Alice has lost her super powers, and this makes the film actaully better as it makes her vulnerable and adds a bit more tension to what was becoming more Matrix than zombie apocalypse.
with the return of Paul W,S. Anderson directing again the film dazzles with the effects and leaves the ending open for a fifth onslaught.

They all may be shallow and make little sense, but they are great fun. and this quadrilogy is brilliant value for money.

I have enjoyed the Resident Evil films and you can sit down and enjoy them without puting to much in to it. My personel favourate out of all the movie's so far is Resident Evil Apocaypse as it's closer to the Resident Evil 3 game and has my personal best monster - Nemesis

As a series the Res Evil films are not so bad but I think a 5 and final film would tie it together and finsh it off, with the end of the 4th film setting up for a 5th

resident evil i agree with the reviews about not sticking to the games ( some parts show the games influence ) but i my self have to watch these based on the movie and not a game tie in or you will hate it .
Resident evil - a very good start and well acted out with a great storyline and great action very well directed ****(4)
Resident Evil 2: Jill and Nemesis make there way into the second movie , i feel that the action in bits was OTT , it lost is scare factor felt like a pure fight action movie with the scare and story dragged down. ***(3)
Resident Evil 3: the weakest of all 3 , alice is getting powers and becoming super so you know that she will just defeat the zombies everytime , with the scare factor also gone in this one and just another action flick , claire is now shown in this movie but no jill ***(3)

Resident Evil 4: this movie does tie in the 4th and 5th game zombies but they dont explain in the movie how they came to be that way they had them mixed with your typical zombie , the executioner makes an appearance but also explains no were how he became to be.Wesker is done to the 5th game which they stick too.
The Acting: the acting is below average from all cast ( excluding wesker ) some of the dialogue and scenes seemed too cheesy. wrong choice for chris big time.
Chris and Claire reunion is rather a big downside , it felt as if they never were brother and sister and they speak about 5 words to each other throughout the whole movie. Even tho Claire cant remember who Chris is , you still feel they should have a moment or something. The characters were not that exciting.
The story itself has lost its way , basically the whole movie is about alice and others trying to get to a place which the movie then tries to make a big twist out off.
The 3d i have to say was outstanding. AS for the "matrix style" action ( taking straight out of the matrix) felt for the first 15 minutes i was watching matrix but with different characters. The slow motion grew rather tiring there is only so many times you can through a gun in slow motion style.
While the movie holds a good decent action flick with superb 3d and good "matrix" style shots. However the story , acting and the characters let the movie down (apart from wesker)
Ps. wait 20 second after the credits meant to be a big shocker ( not)
which lets us know another one is due to be hitting are screens
oh joy -sighs-.

i think that the movies would have done better of stuck to the games
first movie stars team , Chris , Jill and wesker in the mansion
second movie claire and leon and the forth based on leon....no alice just normal people fighting off the zombies none of the characters gaining super powers ( excluding wesker)

I agree with the previous comments, the 1st 3 films were brilliant but then I was extremely disapoitned when I went to watch the 4th at the Cinema. It was a total let down, like I said I loved the 1st 3 films so my expectations for the 4th were very high however it was a total let down.
I think the problem was that the directors focused waaaaay too much on the 3D effects (which wernt too bad) and just lost the story line in the process.
Besides the big disappointment with the 4th film I will still be buying the boxset as I think if your going to have the boxset you need all the films!
Again dont be totally put off by the 4th film because the 1st 3 are brilliant!
