Hunted as a murderer by those who do not understand his calling, Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) travels the globe as a fugitive. Accompanied only by Carl, (David Wenham), a friar entrusted with providing Van Helsing's safety and a weapons arsenal to rival James Bond, Van Helsing is despatched to the shadowy world of Transylvania.

Home to the ravishing Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale), one of the last remaining descendents of a powerful royal family, Van Helsing has been sent to terminate the evil and undefeatable Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh) and his alluring bloodthirsty vampire brides.

Herself a fearless hunter, Anna joins forces with Van Helsing to confront her family's life long adversary and avenge the deaths of her predecessors. In a stunning showdown, Van Helsing comes face to face with his mortal enemy but is also forced to confront his past...

 Great Adaptation

I wasn't really expecting this to be much cop but how wrong i was!
Magnificent from the start, effects are superb and as with most traditional horror tales it is a love story that soon turns into a tale from the dark side.
The gothic feel to the set and cast are spot on and there is plenty of action and humour....
And how bloody sexy are the Brides of Dracula.....BITE ME BITE ME!

 Great film

This movie is my favourite, it includes vampires, Dracula, warevolfes and Frankenstein. One of the main characters is Kate Beckingsale, and she's the best with vampires for ever!!!!

this is one of the best films ever (thank you Stephen!)

i have seen this film most probably over 200 times, and yet i never get boared. this is suh a clever film, and even if you dont like the look of it buy it anyway and watch the extras and see how much time and effort was put into this holy masterpiece. along with the computer animation and the fantastic special effects, not to mention the AWESOME music, this film is deserved to be watched by everyone out there who appreciates good movie making. i love the idea of bringing all the classic monsters into one movie and tying them all together- who would have thought that a movie that started out as an image on the beach could turn into such a captivating non- stop thrill ride! i pay my respects to the whole cast and crew and to everyone else out there who thinks that this movie rocks just as much as i do_ and if Mr Sommers just happens to read this, please make a sequel and BRING DRACULA BACK!!! thank you for reading and hopefully this advice will have sunken in enough for you to buy it now if you dont already have it! xxx

A firm favourite in the 'Friday Night' flick part of my DVD collection there could be so many reasons to rip this film apart but in spite of all it's OTT-ness I've enjoyed it many a time.

In fact, it's probably the OTT that makes it work so well. Director Stephen Sommers has always been of the 'what does subtle mean?' school of blockbuster film-making and Van Helsing is no exception as our mysterious monster hunter (a strong as ever Hugh Jackman) gets sent to investigate various shenanigans in and around the Castle of local beauty Anna Valerious (a stunning Kate Beckinsale).

Cue appearances from Frankenstein's Monster, Dracula, The Wolfman and some edible locals and you have two pacey hours of CGI-filled pulse pounding adventure that rarely stops to take a breath. And at 3.99 it's very much a solid bargain!
