The Director's Cut: too terrifying to be shown in the cinema!

Overnight the world has become a living nightmare of surreal proportions, with the planet's population hit by an inexplicable, unfathomable and lethal plague - and the dead aren't dying. Corpses yearning for their next meal are now stalking the few remaining survivors, driven by their insatiable hunger to feed upon the flesh of the living!

After a terrifying escape from her suburban Wisconsin home on the morning after, Ana Clark runs into a small group of the still-living, a rag-tag group who seek refuge in a fortress of the late 20th Century - an abandoned suburban mall. As the world outside grows more hellish, as the ever-increasing army of decomposing zombies tirelessly strive to infiltrate the mall, the survivors battle the undead. Sealed off from the rest of what used to be the world, the mall's inhabitants, now one of the last bastions of humanity, must learn to co-exist with each other and use every available resource in their fight to remain alive, and more importantly, human...

The original movie was is a all time classic, it is perfect in every way (apart from the blue painted zombies) To hear they would mess with a classic, was poinless ! Unless that is, it is made like this ! The plot is updated but this is a brilliant assault on your senses, gone are the slow moving Dead, in are pumped up Rabid Zombies. From the start, the film has a very different feel, The early signs of impending doom are handled well with the hospital scene, then the morning comes and all hell is let loose! The film never misses a beat, the shocks come thick and fast, and so do the exploding heads! also watch the end credits as you will see what happend to the survivors after they escape from the shopping mall. The film has shocking brutal violence, well written characters and is very well acted, and most of all scary An excellent remake of the excellent original, that no zombie fan should be without.

A remake of 'Dawn of the Dead'? It certainly sounded like a terrible idea - Romero's classic original was good enough already, surely we didn't want ANOTHER tired, predictable, lazy horror remake, did we? Well, it came as a pleasant suprise then (a shock to the system even) when Zak Snyder's 2004 're-interpretation' turned out not only to be a worthy remake but a fantastic horror film in it's own right. From the moment the little kid tears a bloody chunk from her father's neck and we follow the apocolyptic carnage unfolding in the neighbourhood I knew that this was going to be an adaptation worth bearing with. Keeping the basic plot of the original and centering the events in and around a shopping mall helps maintain the original films sense of claustrophobia but Zak Snyder adds further alterations that really help the film come alive. Namely - those zombies can't half move! Eschewing the typical stereotype of the slowmoving, lumbering zombies of old these creatures are Olympic athletes in comparison. The fantastic scene when one turns towards the camera to reveal a severed arm (real amputees were employed to add to the authenticity) and then launches himself towards the protagonists at quite terryfying speed came as quite a shock after a lifetime brought up on classic zombie movies. The action level is certainly ramped up from the original, as too is the amount of gore (especially in this directors cut). I wouldn't want to reveal to much but, suffice to say, I've learnt never to handle a chainsaw on a fast-moving vehicle. 'Dawn of the Dead' is a resounding success - it blends tension, gore, action and laughs (the hilarious look-a-like zombie shoot-a-thon) and should, under no circumstances, be missed by fans of the original. When there is no more room in Hell, the Dead shall walk the Earth...

 Excellent zombie movie!

One of the best modern zombie movies out there and I've seen my fair share! I don't often watch a movie more that 2-3 times but this is a definate keeper.
The movie manages to keep a realistic edge that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

 QUALITY HORROR

This movie is excellent, expecially as far as remakes go. The gore is done very well and the acting is great (a good performance from ving rhames). It doesn't however better the original, but is still a cut above a lot of the horror drivel being needlessly pumped out by studios looking to make a quick buck (most of the asian horror remakes pretty much, the ring was ok though). Zack snyder shows a real visual style and fast paced action, blood and brains will keep you amused for the duration.
