I cant believe this classic is only £3.99 !!!
Its a toss-up for me, between Fright Night & Vamp as the best vampire movie from the 80s.
But as Vamp hasnt yet been released in the UK, i think this gets the nod. ( MSG TO PLAY.COM......release Vamp on region 2 dvd please )
Excellent storyline, excellent acting, excellent SFX & most importantly, excellent memories of watching this in the 80s as a teenager.
PS, Stephen Geoffreys as 'Evil' Ed................Terrifying!!!
Him & Mr Barlow (Salems Lot), most sick looking Vampires ever.
PPS, i just remembered 'The Lost Boys', so now its a three-way tie.
Peace :-)
If your into the 80s and love horror then this should be in your collection, good fun story and interesting characters make this a notable vampire film, for a bargain price its worth picking up!!
Fright Night (1985) is a cult horror comedy starring Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale and Roddy McDowall.
This is one of those movies which is remembered fondly by fans who saw it back in the day unfortunately for those of us that missed it the movie looks a little dated and cheesy by todays standards.
Writer/director Tom Holland (Child's Play) delivers in terms of scares, nudity, gore and humour but some of the effects are looking cheap and some of the diaglogue is laughable bad.
I can understand why people who grew up with this movie love it but times have changed and this movie is in bad need of a remake. Which coincedently is in the works with Colin Farrell as the vampire neighbour. On second thoughts maybe the remake is a bad idea.
I'm not one for vampire flicks, but this was EXCELLENT. I wasn't expecting to be scared too much, but this had me jump several times. A great soundtrack, solid performances and great make-up effects that are terrifying. A real good teen vampire movie that you will want to watch again.
This is one of my all time classic vampire film. The story of a kid who find out that the guy who has just moved in next door is a Vampire ! The only problem is that nobody belives him ( who would ? ) but what makes his problems even worse is that his new next door neighbour knows, he knows ! The film follows all the old vampire trappings, sunlight, crosses, bats, wolves, holy water and not casting a reflection. The latter is used to brilliant effect in the suductive night club scene. Director Tom Holland went on to make Child's Play, but this is his crowning glory. The Special effects are still excellent after all this time, just look at the tranformation from a wolf back to a human ! A brilliant horror and a must have for any horror fan !
