12-year-old Dre Parker could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying - and the feeling is mutual - but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre's feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng.

In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han, who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.

 Just Didn't Like It

There's nothing majorly wrong with this film, it's just predictable and boring. The fight scenes were OK, the acting was good on Jaden Smiths part, Jackie Chans, not so much. It should of been named the Kung Fu Kid, I don't think it certifies to be a karate kid movie, it's definitely not a sequence, it's a remake. Basically the orginal Karate Kid's but more childish and tackier.

 Wasn't sure what to expect

Some people have said this is too much like the original.....wow really? The name didn't give it away much, of course its like the original its a re-make of it but brought into the future!
Yes the story line is cheesy and you can guess whats going to happen but thats what this sort of movie is for, a feel good film with some good fight scenes in, you know what you are going to get when you watch it, I was pretty surprised, I really enjoyed this film!

 The kids will love it!

I took my nieces and nephews to see this film & they loved it so much that we went to see it a second time! I was more than happy to see it twice too, its a good little film. I can't say I'm a massive fan of the original though, I do like it but I don't think its anything spectacular. To me this is just as good if not better. Jaden Smith is believable, you sympathise with his character & he doesn't come across as annoying like a lot of child actors tend to do. As for Jackie Chan, its great to see him being give the chance to act which he does really well here. Before watching the film I couldn't really imagine Chan as the Old Master type of character as I'm used to seeing him as the mischievous student or slapstick kung-fu expert. Its easy to forget he's actually getting older because he still looks in great shape for a man in his mid 50s but here he does look like a wise older man & his presence as an authoritative figure is felt throughout the film yet there's a nice vulnerability that makes him very likeable. The only thing I will say is that they could have changed the title. The Kung-Fu Kid would have made more sense but hey, I'm not going to lose any sleep over that, it doesn't bother me but I do believe it has turned some people off the film which is pretty ridiculous but oh well, their loss. I would recommend this film to anyone, great for all the family

 Absolutely Brilliant!!!!

Knowing i had always loved the original Karate Kid with Ralph Macchio i wanted to watch and enjoy this and was pleasantly surprised :) Will Smiths son plays an amazing part and well deserves an Oscar!! Jackie Chan added i kick to this film too and he touched me. There was some brilliant parts, especially were Will Smiths son did some great dancing and overall i ticked all the boxes: greatly entertaining, fab kung fo, a loving story and at end pure victory, again 1 of the best films this year and i have purchased it to enjoy again and again and will do!........

 Nice remake.

I was presently surprised by this movie to be honest. I'm a big fan of Jackie Chan - especially his 80's movie's like the Police Story series and Wheels and Meals etc with Sammo Hung and Yuen Biao and found this family movie not bad at all. Infact it's pretty good as a family movie - which is what the original Karate Kid was remember!. The martial arts is much much better in this movie (it's Wushu/Kung fu by the way not Karate) and like the first film you can actually care about the characters. Jackie plays a good role and Jaden Smith is pretty accomplished given his age (some people criticise him but come on compared to alot of child actors!!). The plot moves along quick nicely and it keeps you interested with a nice message. If kids watch it and get inspired to start training or to even look up old Jackie Chan films or other martial arts films such as the one's with Bruce Lee or Sammo Hung then it's done it's job. Nice remake!
