A fatherless teenager faces his moment of truth in The Karate Kid.

Daniel (Ralph Macchio) arrives in Los Angeles from the East Coast and faces the difficult task of making new friends. However, he becomes the object of bullying by the Cobras, a menacing gang of karate students, when he strikes up a relationship with Ali (Elisabeth Shue), the Cobra leader's ex-girlfriend. Eager to fight back and impress his new girlfriend, but afraid to confront the dangerous gang, Daniel asks his handyman Miyagi (Noriyuki "Pat" Morita), whom he learns is a master of the martial arts, to teach him karate. Miyagi teaches Daniel that karate is a mastery over the self - mind and body - and that fighting is always the last answer to a problem. Under Miyagi's guidance, Daniel develops not only physical skills but also the faith and self-confidence to compete despite tremendous odds as he encounters the fight of his life in the exciting finale to this entertaining film.

Still the original. Still the classic. Still the BEST!

Only the "Old One" could teach him the secrets of the masters...and only the "Old One" is the best...forget the "remake" that has Kung-fu, not karate...watch this- deffinatly worth it- still a fantastic movie, ageless, and timeless!

If you are not happy with this, a few hours of painting the fence should calm you down...

 Flawless!

Easily in my top ten of all time! This story will move and excite you with pin point performances and stand out set pieces, not to mention the awe inspiring music. You don't watch The Karate Kid, you experience it. Re-live that final climatic moment again and again, it never tires! Magical!

BRING BACK THE 80'S! WOW, I love this film, I was 10 when this was first released and like many kids of that era I was so inspired I took up martial arts and am now an instructor, 15 years later I still watch this film with fond memories of the time.

 nostalgic!

this film is awesome stuff! i remember me and my brother used to watch it all the time when we were younger! and we did karate because of it! its directed by the same guy who did rocky aswell which doesent surprise me! since this is rocky with karate instead of boxing! very nostalgic stuff! and it doesent dissapoint now im alot older like some films! my advice grab the anthology boxset! you get more for your moola!!!.

Top 100 DVD Reviewer

What a fantastic film. Ralph Macchio is brillant as Daniel & in a way is a coming of age film. Pat Moira became somewhat of an icon as Mr Moyughi, Daniel's Sensi/Teacher/Companion & was incidentally nominated for an Oscar. Also features a young Elizabth Shue before she found fame. As seemed to be the case with alot of 80s classics, the originals are always the best & the sequels were often a let down & this was no different. This Special Edition is a worthy purchase for any Karate Kid fan!!
