i was at the O2 on the sunday night and what a wonderful way to celebrate the record smashing show that is Les Miserables. To be there was really 'dreaming the dream'..two highlights from the concert that stand out were 1) at the end seeing the O2 cast, the touring cast, the west end cast and the original 1985 cast joined together singing one day more and 'the 4 valjeans' singing a new rendition of 'bring him home' was just amazing, and 2) Alfie Boe as Valjean singing 'bring him home', his performance was so breathtaking and the standing ovation so loud and ongoing that alfie had to break character and acknowledge the crowd...it was an awe-inspiring moment which i will never forget!!!!!! the rest of the cast were fantastic...samantha barks as eponine and the young lad who played gavroche in particular were amazing. one downside was nick jonas..i was sat 30feet from him and he struggled throughout..totally outclassed by the talent surrounding him!!! if you were not there or didnt mmage to catch it at a cinema viewing then get this dvd...you will not be disappointed!!!!! ;o)
I thought the last Anniversary Concert could not be bettered but I was wrong, absolutely thrilling especially the end sequence, the big BUT however was Nick Jonas whose voice did not and could not match those around him, a very disappointing Marius
I am a massive fan of Les Mis and seen it many times in London and on tour. I think this performance and production was brilliant. A few new bits added and nice to see they made it slightly different from the 10th anniversary performance. Matt Lucas was brilliant and hope he will get a chance to perform in the theatre. Alfie Boe's vocals was out of this world. I think the recent comments on Nick Jonas was unfair. He was good. Maybe people find it hard compare him to Michael Ball. Nick is younger and baby faced thats the only difference..and Marius is a student so students are young and sometimes baby face. After watching this I now plan to go to the westend soon to watch it. again!!
We saw this at an Odeon Cinema being streamed from O2. I was totally blown away by the stunning & fantastic performances of all the characters Alfie Boe as Valjean was mesmerising, but Colm Wilkinson made my hair stand on end & my whole body come out in goose pimples when he sang 'Bring Him Home' when the original cast came on stage at the end. I don't mind admitting the tears poured down my face for a second time that evening. I was fortunate to have seen the original and although Nick Jonas as Marius was okay, Michael Ball has huge shoes to fill!! The Theadiers were hilarious, I think it's the right place in the show for a little bit of light heartedness. Tears, laughter, stunned silence, thunderous applause, the best show I have seen in years. I think those who saw the show in the cinema were more fortunate than those at the O2 & Barbican because all the camera angles, the close ups, the longer shots were all piece perfect. The DVD is top of my Christmas list & knowing me, I'll probably buy all my nearest & dearest the DVD of Les Miserable, the 25th Anniversary. Amazing
I got this DVD for christmas and it made my year!! I was already a fan of Alfie Boe, Lea Salonga and Ramin Karimloo so i was sooo excited to hear they were performing for the 25th Anniversary concert. Even though i have seen Les Mis live numerous times, and watched the DVD of the 10th Anniversary over and over i still found myself glued to the screen for the entire performance! My only let down was Nick Jonas, while i think its great that he will draw young people in and introduce a whole new audience to musical theatre, he wasn't as strong as i would have liked and felt disappointed that for such a huge occasion maybe popularity won over quality. Overall, a greatly enjoyable, mesmerizing and talent filled celebration of the best musical of all time!
