This is a stunning adaptation of the massive musical Phantom Of The Opera. The sets are lavish and so detailed, they really are mesmerising. The acting is brillaint and Gerard Butler and Emmie Rossum give award winning performances as the two leads. Their vocals are outstanding, especially Rossum's as she was only 16 when she filmed this, she is immensly talented for someone of her age.
The supporting actors are also great, and the film as a whole is just brilliant!
The extras on the dvd are fantastic, there is hours of bonus stuff on how the sets were made, the recording of the music, cast interviews and behind the scenes stuff, the extras are definately worth watching.
The dvd is recorded in 5.1 surround sound so if you do not have this make sure you change the sound settings on the dvd before playing it otherwise you will get no sound! This is a bargain price so grab it now!
this is possibly my favourite film ever!
it has everything a film should have and more, action, horror, and romance. something for everyone. i made everyone in my family watch this, most of them loved it.....
Went to see this show in London and rushed back to buy the DVD wasnt disappointed, its fab, ! love it......
when i watched this film on dvd i was amazed at the sheer
brilliance of the performances from a young 'emmy rossum' as 'christine' ( what a magical voice from one so young),also a polished showing as the 'phantom' from 'gerard rossum'
the phantom becomes obsessed with 'christine's' vocal
ability.
i'm sure most will be familiar with the story, but,if you have
not yet seen this be prepared to be impressed.
this will send a shiver down your spine,it's a truley emmotional ride, great and familiar songs, along with the
impressive orchestral backing throughout.
great if you can watch and listen with surround sound.
When I heard that someone was making a film version of the musical of the phantom, I was really looking forward to it. I had seen Phantom at Her Majesty's theatre and that was absolutely breathtaking in the theatre. When I saw this I knew it wouldn't be as magical as the stage version, and I was right.
The Phantom isn't as mysterious or as magical in the film compared to the stage version. In the stage version, he shoots fireballs from a walking stick and in the Masquerade scene he disappears at the bottom of the staircase and 1 second later, reappears at the top of the stairs. Surely all this would be included in the film? Sadly not.
The amazing costume the Phantom wears in the stage production (with the red death costume and skull mask and great big red hat) isn't in the film, Why?
And finally, the phantoms disfigurement in the film isn't half as grisly as the stage production. In the stage production, he has swollen lips and his skull protrudes out of his head!! In the film, it just looks like a bad case of eczema.
If you're a fan of Phantom, buy it but don't expect great things (the singing in it isn't all that great either. however the guy who plays Raoul is quite good)
This will never be anywhere near as good as the stage version
(I don't understand why they didn't just film the stage version)
absolutely amazeing in every way. couldnt look away from the tv at all.!!! this version is wonderful. the cast the story and the songs are outstanding. Im really glad I have added it to my collection, and I could watch it over, over again. Buy it.
Ive never seen the stage show but i got hooked on this the first time i saw it. The music is so catchy and the acting is top notch, i must have watched it about 20 times its great!!
An excellant transfer to DVD with fantastic picture, colour and sound fidelity. The story and music are well known and the performances in this version are superb. A truly lavish production. A must for all you home cinema adicts.
I was stunned by the performances by the cast in this latest production of The Phantom Of The Opera. The age of the actress alone is set to amaze watchers. Starring Gerald Butler (Tomb raider: Cradle of life, 300) in what was his most inspiring role to date as The Pantom. I would not say I am a fan of musicals but the Music and action make this a fantastic film for all.
GERARD BUTLER convinced me with his singing truely the best 'Phantom' to cross the screen. The budget not cheated on in this movie as this looks impressive as it is expensive. Each character sings with passion and neither falter where i thought they would.'music of the night' is justifiably the best song in the movie and 'BUTLER' nails it like 'Crawford' did in the stage version originally.Best musical of recent years.
