Rob Marshall directs this big-budget musical based on the classic Fellini film 8 1/2. Set in early 1960s Venice, the film follows famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he struggles to complete his latest project on the eve of his 40th birthday. Meanwhile, he must also juggle the various colourful women in his life: his wife Luisa (Marion Cotillard), his mistress Carla (Penelope Cruz), his muse Claudia (Nicole Kidman), his producer Liliane (Judi Dench), his mother (Sophia Loren) and even a prostitute who resurfaces from the depths of his past (Stacy Ferguson). Kate Hudson co-stars as the American journalist who interviews him about his life and work.

I went to see this film as soon as it was on at the cinema, i'd waited so long to see it and finally i could! it was AMAZING!

the opening scene was fabulous and daniel day lewis is amazing you wouldnt believe he is english, penelope cruz was brilliant as his mistress comedic and sexy at the same time, marion cotillard well what can we expect, fantastic as usual, fergie who has an absoloutley amazing voice fits perfectly into this film she is gorgoues and attacks performing so well! Judi denchwas surprisingly good as his confidante, singing and roaming around the stage. AND...Nicole kidman i thought she was fantastic, she plays his muse and she is perfect and idol and although has short scenes her song 'unusual way' was perfectly sung, in my opinion and i thought she played her part well.

I would suggest seeing this film just for the line up, however the scenes are breathtaking, itallian film making looks amazing, it makes you want to be itallian and live in italy.

Fast cars, Women, Scenery and some humour thrown in.

Ultimatley this film is about a director who struggles to come up with an idea for his film and these women in his life are not making it any easier.

This is an amazing film and i would totally recommend it, Cant wait till it comes out on DVD.

Even go and see it, if you are just wanting to see your favourite actor or actress x

AWESOME!!

Top 10  Reviewer Top 10 DVD Reviewer

Watched this not knowing what to expect i had seen mixed reviews for this film but decided to give it a go.
The film centres on Guido (Daniel Day Lewis) the hot shot Italian director who is struggling to write a script to his newest movie, What we see is 10 days in his life as he remenises about the nine different women in his life his mother, his muse, his wife, his mistress are just a few of the women we see come in and out of his life.
The film was based on a Broadway musical so of course there are lots of musical numbers in it each of the women in his life sing a musical number some of them better than others Fergie and Nicole Kidmans numbers are the best of the bunch and a few are quite bad in truth.
An excellent all star cast make the film more interesting than it actually is Daniel Day Lewis is excellent as usual you would actually believe he is Italian and Judi Dench was great and it was strange to see her doing a musical number and Kate Hudson and Penelope Cruz sizzle in their musical numbers.
If you were a fan of Rob Marshalls Chicago then you will probably more than likely enjoy this film it isnt bad but it just isnt all that good.

 Take it all.

From the moment Guido Contini steps into his 1960 Alfa Romeo Giulietta I knew I was going to love this film. Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't leave me with the feeling of wanting to wash my eyeballs with bleach. In fact, I actually quite like him in NINE.

Nicole Kidman's Italian accent is something to be questioned, however the rest of the supporting cast are marvelous. Marion Cotillard has an amazing ability of making her eyes look wet, giving her character Luisa the vulnerability that was needed. She also gives the audience side boob. Yay.

This film makes me want to be Italian.

 Think Italian. Think Filmmaking.

Saw this yesterday at the cinema. I've got to say I wasn't expecting much following the critics reviews (2stars), but I was pleasantly surprised. It follows the life of Guido, a middle-aged stereotypical Italian Director who has an overactive imagination and chronic insomnia whilst he is under a lot of pressure to film his latest movie.

Guido (Daniel Day Lewis) has many women in his life - his leading ladies (Claudia - Nicole Kidman, Stephanie - Kate Hudson), his leading lady mistress (Carla - Penelope Cruz), his wife (Luisa - Marion Cotillard), his confidant (Lilli - Judy Dench) as well as searching for advice from his deceased mamma (Sophia Loren).

With filmmaking success in his earlier years, but his last two films being flops, Guido is under tremendous pressure to make his latest film a hit. He has his producer in place, his cast, his crew, his wardrobe dept etc, but NO SCRIPT! Understandably he is in a desperate situation as he tries to put together a movie in his mind - turning reality into fantasy, and memories into a musical - cue the fantastic musical soundtrack this film has which is bound to sell thousands of copies.

The acting by Daniel Day Lewis as Guido and Penelope Cruz as Carla are superb. You forget completely that the role of Guido is not being played by an Italian, but by the British actor Daniel Day Lewis who has the Italian attitude and swagger down to a T. Penelope Cruz plays the ideal mistress - but I guess she's got a lot of practice... Only joking! Her acting is spot on and her dance moves and costumes fabulous.

There is a lot of 'European' humour in this, which the British audience might 'get' but the American audience less likely, so it probably won't do as well over there as it will in Europe. If you've ever watched Italian films or Italian style films you will know what I mean.
