Wow, I can't believe this movie has so few reviews?? This is a great underwater epic, where Cameron works his magic, money for money I would probably recommend the 2disc special edition, but I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the single disc.

Tension is created when a US Navy Seal Team is ordered on board an underwater drilling rig (DeepCore) to assist in the salvage operation of a US Navy submarine.

Tension grows further when it becomes apparent that the salvage mission is not what it appears to be, and sightings of unexplained light beings try to make contact with the drilling crew.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, agendas clash between the rigging crew and the leader of the SEALS Team (Michael Bien) who has been seriously affected by decompression sickness. The man is armed, unstable and very dangerous, it ends up being a game of survival.

There is some fantastic moments that keep you gripped through out the film, good performances all round, but Ed Harries is absolutley brilliant. I want to share more, but you've got to watch it for yourself, buy it, you won't regret it.

Director james camerons "the abyss". Long film starring ed harris, mary elizabeth mastrantonio and michael beihn about a group of civilian oil rig crew recruited to conduct a search and rescue effort when a submarine sinks.. One diver soon finds himself 25,000 ft below the oceans surfaces. What follows is a sci fi mystery with a force that has the power to change the world or destroy it.. Great special effects considering the year, and very entertaining. If you havnt seen this then i recommend you buy it. Heart stopping, white knuckle, deep sea thrills.

This is a long but a highly entertaining sci fi/ thriller from who else other than James Cameron who seems to be able to pull these films out with incredible ease. Due to its long running time it can get dull at times but its one of those films that is visually beautiful that you have to keep with it. The action type scenes are excellently done and the storyline was pretty good but nothing we havent seen before. Highly underrated movie due to the other blockbusters he has done but one of the best underwater films you will find anywhere. Enjoy

I've been a great fan of this film since it was first released in 1989 and the 1992 special edition included here - with expanded scenes and a different ending - only improves what is, to me, a terrific film.

After the unexplained sinking of a nuclear submarine, near the deepest ocean trench in the world, the crew of the experimental submersible drilling platform Deepcore are tasked to be moved nearer the sinking site to try and mount a rescue attempt.

Once they find the sub, strange events and sightings of odd lights under the ocean lead the crew of the rig to realise that there may be something else down in the depths of the ocean.

As tensions rise, and events begin to become more serious - above the waves as well as below - the crew of Deepcore and the whole world sit on the brink of a momentous discovery lying at the bottom of The Abyss.

A technical masterpiece from master of perfection James Cameron, featuring groundbreaking CGI effects and underwater filming techniques, married to a storyline a litle reminiscient of 'The Day the Earth Stood Still' takes this thoughtful blockbuster to being deserving of a higher status than it has.

Amazing film.
