Boys will be boys!

Top Gear doesn't do things by halves, which is completely apparent in Top Gear: The Challenges. Not only do they attempt to drive on water, send a car into space and race a bunch of jumping French men only to lose, they also manage to embroil several celebrities. Top Gear: The Challenges features the most ludicrous stunts ever undertaken in a TV show and is available on DVD from 4th June.

In an effort to do things a bit differently, Jeremy, Richard and James are asked to go out and buy their own everyday cars, before converting them into stretch limos. Jeremy opts for a tiny Fiat Panda, Richard decides to use an MGF roadster and James, meanwhile, goes for an Alfa Romeo 164 and a Saab 9000, with the intention of making a sort of Alfa Romeaab. After a series of challenges our presenters are sent to collect some high-profile celebs that need a lift to the Brit Awards. Richard collects R&B star Jamelia, who is visibly alarmed by the low quality and open-air nature of her evening's ride. James takes best male nominee Lemar for a tour of every one-way system in West London, whilst Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles is happy just to survive the journey as Jeremy's giant Panda falls in half.

Who say's cars can't go into space? Well quite frankly everyone, but that doesn't deter the Top Gear team. Using the scientific principle that 'it's a bit pointy at the front', a Reliant Robin is selected as the shuttle. The British Amateur Rocket Society is recruited to assist the team as they attempt to launch the largest non-commercial rocket in European history. Everything seems to be working perfectly, but at the last moment the Robin spirals out of control, and crashes into a hillside, becoming Top Gear's biggest ever explosion.

The team also attempts to turn a boring multiple person transporter into a fashionable 'drop top', by putting a working convertible roof on an ageing Renault Espace. You can do it, but you probably shouldn't.

 brilliant, but.......

everything you expected.brilliant dvd, but..... as one previous reviewer pointed out, some of the challenges have been cut down. for instance, the stretch limo challenge. part of the fun, when it was originally aired, was the presenters creating the cars. on this dvd, it misses all that, and cuts straight to the already completed cars. shame. but dont let that put you off. a really good buy.

A lot of Top Gear for your money

At nearly three hours you get an awful lot of Clarkson, May and Hammond for your money, with plenty of challenges from various series of the show, including the most recent. What you don't get though is anything that hasn't already been repeated ad nauseum on BBC2 in best of compilations or on the UKGold/People satelite channels. It would be nice to get extended versions of some of these challenges with footage that didn't make the final cut, but alas, the special features section is empty. There's no getting away from the fact that some of these challenges truly are class, but 2entertain or BBCvideo (or whatever they call themselves these days) could really do a lot better. The real fans who have already seen these segments many times over probably need an extra reason to buy this on DVD rather than wait until the inevitable repeat, and this release doesn't really do enough to be truly 5-star value. It's awfully close though!

This DVD is great value for money, there's loads of James, Richard and Jeremy's hilarious antics such as their races across Europe, amphibious cars, convertible people carrier, limos and making a space shuttle out of a reliant robin. This is the best Top Gear DVD yet.

Although, the content is the same that has been aired on TV, so only if you want to re-watch their epic challenges should you buy this DVD, don't buy it expecting to see extended versions of the challenges.

It makes me laugh all the time, I adore the TG3 (and of course the Stig) and I watch TG all the time! im such a huge fan! all of the road tests, reviews and challenges are great! and the banter between the 3 of them is priceless! whether u like/love cars, or just like watchin Top Gear for the laughs, this is a must hav for all TG enthusiasts!

This is topgear at its funniest. You get a nice collection of challenges which amounts to nearly 3 hours of classic topgear.

A couple of things i have noticed is that for example in the stretch limo challenge there is a chunk missing where you don't get to see jeremy, richard and james building their limo's which is a shame as i found the building process funny. Also the editing of the dvd is weird. Like for example you could be watching one challenge and then all of a sudden it will cut to the start of another challenge halfway through. It would have been better if they'd let the challenges play through from start to finish but i suppose i am just nit picking as the pro's very much out weigh the con's.

There's plenty of content on here to keep you entertained like turning a reliant robin into a space shuttle or one of my favourites making a homemade convertible people carrier.

Anyway don't let the little quibbles with the editing put you off or that a couple of the challenges have been shortened as they are just little things and most people probably won't notice. So buy this dvd, have some mates over and get beer and a takaway and prepare to laugh you ass off.
