An improvised tour of the north of England reunites comedy favourites Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. In the style of Curb Your Enthusiasm, the story is fictional but based around their real personas.

When Steve is commissioned by the food supplement of a Sunday newspaper to review half a dozen restaurants, he decides to mix work with pleasure and plans a trip around the north with his food-loving American girlfriend. But when she decides to leave him and return to the States, Steve is faced with a week of meals for one, not quite the trip he had in mind.
Reluctantly, he calls Rob, the only person he can think of who will be available. Never one to turn down a free lunch (let alone six), Rob agrees and together they set off for a culinary adventure.

Over the course of six meals at six different restaurants in and around the Lake District, Lancashire and the Yorkshire Dales, the ultimate odd couple find themselves debating the big questions of life, such as how did I get to be here and where do I go next, over a series of culinary delights.

 A Masterclass

Don't know what the first reviewer is talking about this is a masterclass in awkward, self-delusional comedy. The impersonation scenes are superb. The lonliness of Coogan and the playfulness of Brydon make it a show that you can watch again and again.
I love how the ridiculousness of their egos often is outshone by the pompous food that is put in front of them.
Fantastic.

 A Slice of Fried Gold

After reading the butcher's shockingly poor review I felt inclined to balance the scales. Having seen "Cock & Bull Story" from which this series sprung, it's so refreshing to see two comedy actors indulge their skills and treat us in the process.

Coogan and Brydon thankfully don't plunge for the lowest common denominator as opposed to "comedians" such as Russell Howard, instead showcasing their superb impressions. Michael Winterbottom's photography is stunning and the naturalistic style well-suited to the material.

Probably the funniest thing to hit the screens this year it's a welcome change from the dirge of reality shows and the dire state of entertainment that X Factor, Jungle and Strictly bore us with.

 Brilliant but why?

I stumbled upon this by chance one night, flicking through the channels.
First of all,I'm not a Steve Coogan fan and the only thing I've seen Rob Brydon in is Gavin & Stacey.
I watched the first episode and was then hooked.
I've asked myself many a time why I like it and the honest answer is I don't 100% know.
The writing is first class and Coogan & Brydon work really well together.
The scenary around the Cumbrian Mountains and Dales is stunning.
Every stop over is at a little bit of paradise hidden away from the glare of everyday life.
Hotels and restuarants that I personally would love to visit.
The silent times over the restaurant tables work really well and they take the mick out of each other in a classy way.
They both show vunerable parts of themselves to the camera.
Well worth a watch and hopefully the Beeb will do another series.

 Quality

This was one if my favourite things of last year.
Just beautiful, moving, funny, touching, and sometimes awkward in a real way that Gervais could only dream of creating.
If you don't like it, fair enough DS for DF, but this sort of quality is sadly rare theses days, and I will be able to re-watch this over and over again.

 The trip - very funny.

This show is very good. Its quite a mature taste in comedy and I can see why some might not like it. It's a classic case of men that although in there 40's still act like bored school children.
