Overall a good Jon Pertwee story, it is written by Malcolm Hulke who has written some good stories in the past e.g The Silurians, The War Games etc. This story is known for the first off Earth story and Jo first adventure on a different planet, a six parter which can be very tedious due to it can become boring during the middle but it keeps you entertained and thrilled generally. Again Jon Pertwee gives another brilliant performance and also with him is another appearance by the Master played by the late Roger Delgado who gives the makes the master his own.
Overall i would give the story on a whole a 7.5/10.
Well written (but a tad dull for a Pertwee story) but it was refreshing to watch again after the latest series of Doctor Who (which was all the place and rarely made sense). Much prefer Jon Pertwees solid performance over the goofy, nerdish way Matt Smith performs the part as. Comparing the two basically because Colony in Space arrived the day the finale of Matt Smiths 2nd series was shown
After a year of the Third Doctor(Jon Pertwwee) stuck on earth,The Doctor and Jo(Katy Manning) are sent to an alien planet by the Time Lords,to help,in the far future colonists from a greedy and ruthless mining company,IMC and The Master(Roger Delgado) is searching for a Doomsday Weapon there too.
An enjoyable romp in a typical,Dr Who clay pit setting,Pertwee always gives his stories class and urgency and Katy Manning is ideal as devoted companion,Jo.
Malcolm Hulk always gives great depth to his characters,so ok the Robot's a bit ropey but still highly emjoyable, watch out for Corrie's Gail too!
The first thing to say is that at 6 episodes this story suffers from being a bit slow in the middle. That said, this is by no means a bad story. Plenty of confrontation between the colonists and the IMC Mining and Survey team. the colonists want only a fresh start and peace whilst the IMC want only to plunder the planet of its mineral wealth and use any means including murder to do it. The story is a Malcolm Hulke one, so plenty of well written character driven moments. Not a classic story but a worthy one.If you enjoyed The Mutants, chances are, this will appeal.
