I had a bad feeling about series 3. What I couldn't have imagined is just how bad the entire series is. Words like this should be blasphemy for an avid Boosh fan such as myself but this amateurish shambles deserves all the abuse it gets,
Where should I start. Well Howard's self defecation has become bland and precictable to the point of tedium and Vince's flamboyance and vanity has just turned into an excuse for wearing unnecessary and irrelevant woman's clothing to the point where he'd look more at home in a stage version of the rocky horror show. Noel Fielding (Vince) appears to have ditched his main characters energy and enthusiastic style and replaced it with a bored, tired looking transexual.
The once great script writing and witty one liners that made Vince and Howards's relationship so entertaining has been replaced with dry, boring and downright predictable jokes that seem to have little or nothing to do with the unenegaging storylines. Even the surreal edge that made the Boosh so unique and brilliantly watchable has been lost as our favourite comedy writers seem to have struggled for new and interesting ideas. Story lines are weak at best and even the usually very funny Rick Flucher returning as various different characters does little or nothing for the series as his characters are often unlikable, impotent and typically unfunny. There are no real laughs to be had here unless they're of the tragic kind of course. Well Boosh fans, this is another example of great cult comedy destroying itself by trying to reinvent it's own formula and hopelessley failing and subsequently destroying it's own soul. The only saving grace is the end credits, If I could give this tripe nought stars then I would. Now where's that paint......
This series may not have been as good in some ways as Series 1, perhaps it's closer to series 2 in those terms but people are too quick to slate it or certain aspects of it.
Gone are any problems, or distractions, you get from series 1 (and to a lesser extent 2) owing to a low budget. I don't subscribe to the notion that a low budget automatically gives a show some 'character' or 'integrity'.
As for the crack fox episode being the best of the series, well, I'm not sure what it is you're watching the Boosh for. The Boosh is great simply because of the very witty, astute and surreal writing which at its best is quite clearly better than anything else out there other than perhaps (the albeit very different) Peep Show. The plots etc may have gotten more abstract (almost an inevitability with comedy series) as the show progessed since series 1 but the writing, mainly the interaction between Howard and Vince, has actually improved and improved since season 1. The dialogue (and the songs, equally well written) forms the focal point of the show - everything else, all the crazyness, just provides a platform for it to work.
Series 3 is as well, if not better, written than the other two. Sure it misses some aspects but improves others. For example pretty much cutting out (the misfit character and 'basic' humour of) Bob Fossil who was rarely funny and simply a distraction.
Cast your mind back through time and space when you first watched series 2, no doubt like me you had your reservations, 'not a patch on the first series' where are all the great characters from the first series, Bob Fossil, Dixon Bambridge, Joey Moon.....But series 2 grew on me as I am sure it did you. So give series 3 a chance watch it a thousand times like you did 1 and 2 and I am sure you will be begging for more!!
I have to disagree with sammeh's comment I think that series three of the boosh is funnier than the first two series. I will definately be buying this when it comes out. Although some minor jokes are reused they are still funny e.g. bob fossill dancing (if you have seen it you will know what i mean) I highly recommend this dvd as it is so funny. I have also spent 60 quid on tickets to see them next year which im really excited for.
Buy the Boosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it was an ok series i guess. still nothing next to series one though!!! crack fox was the best one in this series. they dropped to many names this time around for my liking & didn't seem to care to much about it, but overall it was ok.
