Fantastic! Classic Agatha Christie at her very best!

Each of these Miss Marple stories is superbly acted by Joan Hickson. They remain faithful to Agatha Christie's original stories and retain the charm and innocence of the novels.

This boxset may seem quite expensive - but if you consider that it contains 12 feature-length films it is actually a very good buy - and worth every penny. Make a nice cup of tea and enjoy!!!!

 The definitive Miss Marple

Joan Hickson was and will remain the definitive Miss Marple, there were many before and quite a few after, but there is only one Joan Hickson. Agatha Christie penned twelve Miss Marple novels and they are all here in this boxed set. On the whole they are faithful representations with only minor alterations which are included in order to aid story telling and in some instances as an aid to continuity, for instance the inclusion of the `Inspector Slack` character into several stories in which he did not originally appear works very well. The only real problem with this collection is the fact that they are aging somewhat and could really do with a `digital clean-up`. That said, if you like Agatha Christie and Miss Marple then this is the set for you.

The series itself is superb. But what I would like to know before shelling out for this box set is: does it have english subtitles? Getting old and starting to hear less well... Does anyone know if it has eng subs?

 most excellent!!!

I have another version of these dvds and actually want to buy this set as I love the cover it comes in. I absolutely LOVE these dvds and have watched them to death. I have to agree with the other reviews that Joan Hickson IS Miss Marple and I have watched others trying to fit the Miss Marple role, but find them decidedly lacking... The dvds I have do contain subtitles, I do not know about this particular version though. And yes, make a pot of tea and sit back and relax - this is an excellent purchase and you will never get tired of watching them!
