I was lucky enough to get this for Christmas and it is truly amazing, so well made and presented in almost HD quality with the voice of god; David Attenborough narrating it, imagine how bad the Americans have it with Sigorny Weaver doing thiers ! there are not really any extras as each episode has it's own making of bit at the end and the picture is not quiet HD, play it on an upscaling DVD player and it is as near as it can be, so so good in every way

Planet Earth (2006) - *****
Fantastic camera work, wonderful glossy look soaked in class, as always - superb narration from David Attenborough. It is impossible to sing the praises of this monumental achievement in wildlife documentation enough. Each glorious eleven episodes has something that will surprise, entertain, astound or shock you. Whether it's the now world famous footage of a snow leopard, a great white shark leaping from the ocean surface and snatching an unsuspecting prey in it's mouth or the simple beauty of superb scenery, ranging from craggy mountains, lush jungles and the dark abyss of the deep ocean. Educational programming has never been more spectacular.

It is hard to summarise this immense production in just a few words. After watching this series, my perception of the world has changed. This series is a must for any fan of the great David Attenborough, and a must for anyone who watched the Blue Planet series, as this builds on the style and lushness of its 2001 predecessor.
From the edges of perception, daring and intrepid film crews, camera men, pilots, divers and explorers have gone to the most extraordinary and breathtaking parts of our world, and have contributed heavily to this monumentally vast work. It is a treat for anyone who has ever wondered what is out there. Buy it, watch it; its the most amazing nature series ever made. Essential.

Planet Earth, no doubt, is for everyone. If they don't want to see it, they're missing out on some of the most amazing footage of nature ever.

As usual, David Attenborough delivers that calm and easy to listen to tone, making the whole experience feel even better.

(check out the jumping Great White scene in the Oceans episode!)

As far as documentaries go... 10/10

After recently finding out I have a fan, I've decided to write more reviews just for the hell of it.

Here's one.

If you, like me, once roamed the globe just assuming that all humanity has become is a grotesque cacophony of Tesco and Starbucks-endorsed dementia and everybody's sole purpose is now to just bumble about waiting for the rapture...

... watch Planet Earth. It will actually restore your faith in the world.

When it comes to nature documentaries this Planet Earth box set is once again proof that nobody does it better than the BBC. Many years in the making the series takes in locations as diverse as the jungles of South America to the Antarctic.

Every episode is beautifully shot and narrated by the legendary David Attenborough providing truly fascinating insights into the weird and wonderful creatures that inhabit every part of Planet Earth.

Thank you planet Earth. This dvd is incredible and a must-have for every nature documentary fanatic. There is no place on our planet where the crew has not been filming and the shots are really stunning. The documentary does not go into detail too much, so that you will not get bored for even the slightest second. I dare to say that David is better than ever and sometimes I just felt like watching Lord of the Rings, because of the great images and his beautiful voice. Planet earth shows us how lovely but vulnerable our planet is, and inspired me to look at nature in a totally different way. Finally my complements to the crew, who are nothing but true professionals.

Dave has been working hard capturing this animal imagery, at a tenner this is an absolute steal. Just got a 42" plasma tv and watched it again, the landscape scenes were breath taking 2nd 3rd 4th time of viewing! I would agree with other comments, 'The Blue Planet' is also a must buy if you like this box set.
