Oscar-winner Tommy Lee Jones directs and stars in this poetic and striking modern-day Western scripted by Guillermo Arriaga (Amores Perros, 21 Grams).

Peter Perkins (Jones) is a veteran cowboy who embodies the values of the old West, living in a small Texas town bordering the U.S. and Mexico. He hires Melquiades Estrada as a ranch hand and quickly befriends the man. But when Estrada is gunned down under mysterious circumstances, Perkins takes justice into his own hands and kidnaps a trigger-happy border patrolman (Barry Pepper), forcing Perkins to unearth Estrada's body and accompany Perkins on horseback on the long and treacherous journey through the frontier mountains and back roads of Mexico to bring his friend's body home.

Just when you think Tommy Lee Jones has kinda gone off the boil
He comes back with No Country For Old Men, In The Valley of Elah and this cracking movie that he also directed.
Three Burials is a Gripping movie about Friendship, Loyalty, Love, Revenge, Honour and Lonliness
I was hooked from start to finish.
Brilliantly acted by Tommy Lee Jones, Julio Cedillio and Barry Pepper.
And the Direction by Tommy Lee Jones is excellent, im very surprised it was overlooked at the Awards.
You can tell it was a real labour of love for him and he really lets each and every actor leave their mark.
Excellent little movie that most people don't even know exists.

Excellent, just excellent. Everything in this film is perfect, even the actors who are given half a line. An fine example of when someone's love for cinema transpires into his work. If you are not moved by this compelling story, you are either dead or you have no heart. Go watch it, now.

a surprising tommy lee jones movie, as well as a director as actor.
starts out as an americana story in the present: border patrol, illegal immigrants, cowboys, ...
due to a unwanted and mistaken killing, the story gradually becomes a more classical western where good and bad meet each ohter, where friendship is holy, where a man has got to do what a man has got to do. unfinished business is no business.
great and convincing acting performances of tommy lee jones and barry pepper.
without doubt a five * movie.

 Beautiful

this film was so beautiful i had to write my first review on this site.

what comes to mind most is the absolute care and attention that is displayed in the setting, the relationships between characters and the pace in which the film goes at.

Jones shows us there is no need to rush. by taking his time, the impact of each action made by anyone becomes more acute. and for what is such an arduous journey, humour is punctuated throughout, brigning a sense of realism to the story.

altho the relationship between jones and pepper is slightly underplayed, everyone convey strong feelings between each other and it is essentially what the story is fundamentally about, even if it isnt focally.

how strong your feelings are for someone are what make you do crazy things. and it is what makes us human. and it is what is shown meticulously well in Three Burials and how understandings someones intentions and decisions is how you ultimately understand them.

Brilliant stuff
