Titles comprise:
Hondo: Wayne plays Hondo Lane, a cavalry rider who becomes the designated protector of the strong-willed Angie Lowe (Geraldine Page) as well as a father figure to her boy, Johnny (Lee Aaker). Angie, determinedly awaiting the return of her brutish husband (Leo Gordon), refuses to leave their homestead despite the growing danger from nearby warring Native American tribes.

McLintock!: Cattle baron, banker, and model citizen George McLintock has the world in his hands. The only thing missing is his wife, Katherine, who left him two years earlier, suspecting him of adultery.

True Grit: The cantankerous Rooster is hired by a headstrong young girl (Kim Darby) to find the man who murdered her father and fled with the family savings. When Cogburn's employer insists on accompanying the old gunfighter, sparks fly.

Rio Lobo: Wayne is Union Colonel Cord McNally, who is teamed with two Confederate soldiers he captured during the war in order to take down a thieving bootlegger. Their travels take them to a small town being held in terror by an evil Sheriff. McNally and his crew decide to help the townspeople with their own brand of justice...

El Dorado: Robert Mitchum plays to perfection an alchoholic but gutsy sheriff who relentlessly battles the dark side of the wild West, ruthless cattle barons and crooked "businessmen." The Duke gives an equally adept performance as the sheriff's old friend who knows his way around a gunfight.

Big Jake: John Wayne is Jacob McCandles, an ageing cowboy in an Old West that is on the verge of modernization. When his eight-year-old grandson is kidnapped by a violent gang led by the evil John Fain (Richard Boone), Jacob's estranged wife (Maureen O'Hara) enlists his help to rescue the boy.

The Shootist: Afflicted with a terminal illness, John Bernard Books, the last of the legendary gunfighters, quietly returns to Carson City for medical attention from his old friend Dr. Hostetler. Aware that his days are numbered, the troubled man seeks solace and peace in a boardinghouse run by a widow and her son.

The Sons Of Katie Elder: Katie Elder bore four sons. The day she is buried they all return home to Clearwater, Texas, to pay their last respects.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance: Jimmy Stewart plays the bungling but charming big-city lawyer determined to rid the fair village of Shinbone of its number one nuisance and Bad Man: Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin).

The High And The Mighty: Wayne plays Dan Roman, relegated to second-in-command cockpit assignments, he finds himself scheduled on a routine Honolulu-to-San Francisco flight - one that takes a terrifying, suspense-building turn when disaster strikes high above the Pacific Ocean at the point of no return.

Island In The Sky: A former army pilot flying transport missions, who is forced to crash-land his fuel-starved plane on a frozen lake after is strays from its course.

Donovan's Reef: Life on a South Pacific island for two ex-Navy buddies is just about perfect. That is, until a beautiful, straight-laced Bostonian arrives on the island in search of her father...

Hatari!: One man heads a highly skilled professional group of game hunters in Africa. Only they don't use bullets - they capture the ferocious big game with strong rope and cameras for zoos and circus attractions. It is an exciting business that pits man against beast.

In Harm's Way: In Harm's Way is the story of a troubled naval officer coming to terms with the aftermath of the Pearl Harbour bombing.

For many John Wayne is the very embodiment and soul of America and this boxed set includes some of his very best work for a bargain price the set even includes Hondo which was unavailable for many years. My favs however are El Dorado with big Robert Mitchum True Grit which of course has just been remade and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance co staring two more Hollywood giants Jimmy Stewart and Lee Marvin. Superb films from the second golden age of Hollywood. Totally recommended and incredible value for money to boot. Boot hill that is. A little joke for my fellow Western fans.
