Rewarded for his heroism in the Civil War, Lt. John Dunbar (Costner), wants to see the American Frontier before it is gone. He is assigned to an abandoned fort where a Sioux tribe is his only neighbour. Overcoming the language barrier and their mutual fear and distrust, Dunbar and the proud Indians gradually become friends. Eventually, he falls in love with the beautiful Stands With A Fist (McDonnell), a white woman raised by the tribe. He learns the culture of the Sioux, lives with them, and even experiences the breathtaking excitement of a buffalo hunt, but his knowledge of the fate that will ultimately befall the tribe torments him. Finally, he is faced with a crucial decision that will cause him to examine his heart and soul before making a heroic choice that determines his destiny.

Heard a lot about this movie but only got a chance to watch it in 2008, thought that might have been dated and become irrelevant. But it has not. This is a fantastic movie with a wonderful central performance from Kevin Costner. Not to mention the brilliant Direction, can't believe this was the first movie he directed.
Really enjoyed it, not something that I will watch again and again but defo has to be seen at least once.

Dances with wolves is a fantastic film well worth watching and buying for your film collection.
The film may appear alittle slow but is infact at a very good pace as you will agree once you get to the end of it.
Absolute fantastic film and the sound track is to die for!
Get buying!

 Long but so worth watching.

Yes the extended edition is 226 minutes long, but really doesn't seem that long while watching, and for me the extra added really did explain and finish the story off much better than the original release. If you like or have the original version, then I guarantee you will find this a far better and more complete film.

dances through history of indian survival

one of the best films of the nineties and dances through the american west of the 1863 civil war and the treatment of the indian quest for survival. this extended version brings the story together better than the cinema release version .the picture and sound quality (dts) is superb and in my opinion is better than the blueray cinema version of three hours. and all the extras are good value .

 Perfection in cinema!!
