Unforgiven is an exciting modern classic that rode off with four 1992 Academy Awards. Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman play retired, down-on-their-luck outlaws who pick up their guns one last time to collect a bounty offered by the vengeful prostitutes of the remote Wyoming town of Big Whiskey: Richard Harris is an ill-fated interloper, a colourful killer-for -hire called English Bob. Gene Hackman is the sly and brutal local sheriff whose brand of Law enforcement ranges from unconventional to ruthless. Big trouble is coming to Big Whiskey...

 A Classy Grown-Up Western

A true masterpiece in understatement, realism, and remarkable storytelling.

Unforgiven tells the story of a man (Clint Eastwood) who has left behind the life of a gunfighter to raise his children on a remote farm. This changes when he hears that two cowboys have "cut up" a woman from a nearby town. Lured by the reward to kill the cowboys, and unable to walk away from his past, he sets off to claim the bounty.

Clint Eastwood's character in the film is not only thoroughly believable, but also a far cry from the heroes we are used to seeing from Hollywood. Our only glimpse at his past life are through the stories he shares with his partner (Morgan Freeman) and this adds to his character as it is our imagination (rather than the usual flashbacks) that we use to see the man.

Casting is perfect - Clint Eastwood plays Westerns like no other actor ever could, Morgan Freeman effortlessly plays alongside him, and Gene Hackman is utterly plausible as the cruel Sheriff. Together with a great cameo from Richard Harris, and the screen always buzzes with serious heavyweight talent.

What seperates this film from many other Westerns and places it alongside other great films of any type, is that even if the subject matter or genre isn't what you'd normally opt for, the strength of the story and the performances shine through.

As is the case with most films that Clint Eastwood directs, the set pieces, the pace of the film, and the care with which it is made are all perfectly crafted.

A thoroughly recommeded film....for anyone - not just fans of Westerns!

This shows that Cint Eastwood is truly one of the best actor and directors around.A fantastic storyline and brilliant casting and acting from everyone involved.
The charactor played by Eastwood could easily be a what happened to the man with no name that he played in the sergio leonne classics. At this price every dvd collection should have it.

 Good but not Great

Despite not being a massive fan of Westerns i decided to give this a watch simply because of the good reviews and because it won a couple of oscars. Overall i thought it as good and a very good performance from Morgan Freeman but overall could have been a little better

 Clint Eastwood at his Best!

*A group of Hit-men (Eastwood & Freeman) come out of retirement for one highly paid last job. With the high reward comes high stakes. They must have to get past the local sheriff (Hackman) who is showing his harsh side!
*Clint Eastwood brilliantly directed and stars in this film. There's lots of action and a great story. There's lots of well thought out scenes. The film has a great ending proving this is one of Eastwood's finest works. Classic.
