Ante up for laughter and action aplenty! Mel Gibson is sly gambler Bret Maverick, Jodie Foster is a charming scam artist and James Garner is a laid back lawman in Maverick, the crowd-pleasing hit that deals you a winning hand.

With more twists than a switchback trail and more sleights of hand than a shell game, Maverick is rollicking proof of how the West was fun. A riverboat poker tourney promises a winner-take-all $500,000 and Bret aims to be the winner who doe the taking! But first he must cope with the hangman's noose, a runaway stage, a wily Indian chief, outlaws, ingrates, a bagful of rattlesnakes and more close calls than a long-tailed cat in a roomful of rocking chairs. So don't miss the excitement.

 An underrated masterpiece

this is film is brilliant, flawless.
the soundtrack is awesome and suits this Romantic Comedy Western perfectly. the acting is superb (notably Mel Gibson and the former 'Maverick' himself James Garner), the poker game is one of the best card scenes in film history, the jokes are very funny and a' plenty, Mel Gibson's Maverick is in my top five best characters of all time and should get more credit. he's suave, he's talented, he's very funny, easy going and most of all isn't a show off with his gun.

overall, Maverick is an underrated masterpeice. if you havn't seen it, see it, if you have, see it again. its £6.99 well spent.

 under-rated

Mel Gibson brings his unique humour that was seen in the later Leathal weapon films to maverick, a western that has a twist. A great cast really brings this film to life and the story to life from a German who thinks its great to shoot indians to an indian with a sense of humour. All I can say is that this a western that makes you laugh out loud.

Look out for a great cameo appearance from Danny Glover, very funny!

This is a very funny western with strong performances by mel gibson and jodie foster. Gibson is really funny in his role as a gambler who is out to win a poker tournament. Foster is also very good as a con artist. The jokes are good but i always expect more. Still however this has always been under rated by a lot of critics around hollywood
