Paying homage to the spaghetti western, world renowned director Takeshi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Audition) has invented a uniquely stylish Japanese action western set during the Genpei clan civil wars of the 12th century and shot in
English.

This is without doubt one of Takashi Miike best films ever, one of the weirdest over the top westerns ever made with some awesome action, shootouts, violence, funny moments and seriously cool directing and wacky characters and effects, it truly has allot of originality and spark and has to be seen. A great cast too, with a cool cameo from Miike's biggest fan Quentin Tarantino, and what a great cameo it is. For this price if your big on Asian films it's a must.

The master is back and he is still as crazy as ever

Takashi miike the master of surreal and crazy film making returns with a japanese take on the western .Taking influences from classic sergio leone films and the lesser known classic Django by italian film maker Sergio Corbucci.Prepare to be blown away by one of the funniest and intresting films of the past few years(well since miikes last film to get a western release).Japanese actors speaking broken engrish does it for me every time ,plus the sound track that plays homage to the original django is superb.Just watch and enjoy:)

Amazing blend of Western and Asian action filmmaking. Visceral set peices, really vibrant colours and a a nice line in dry wit. Pays obvious homage to Django and Yojimbo and Tarantino's involvement interesting as it shows the respect he has for Miike as a director

not your typical western, and yet it is

you can't deny the talent of director Miike, you can't deny that this is a Western, but it is a Miike Western: with the typical twitched edges, the typical japanese accents (a little overacting, the flower as a symbol, the funny english).
nevertheless all the typical western ingredients are also present: the good vs the bad, shoot-outs, the legendary gunfighter that really exists after all, the woman that causes trouble between two parties, .... you name it and it's there, stuffed in this 'crazy' western.
give way to the funny english and you are left with a real western that delivers.
not a disappointment after all, but you have to get used to it.
