The story is set in the famous lawless town of Tombstone, Arizona, at a time when all the worst desperados in the territory gather forces into an outlaw gang ironically called The Cowboys.

The Cowboys number some of the fastest guns and worst reputations in the West. But one day famed lawman Wyatt Earp comes to town with his brothers and their wives, looking for a peaceful place to settle down. But the marauding cowboys make it difficult for anyone to stay out of their way.

Soon Earp's brothers and his old friend Doc Holliday are taking oaths as lawmen. Earp is drawn, against his will, into a spectacular showdown and shoot out with the Cowboys at the OK Corral. But that's not the end of the story; not all of the Cowboys were killed in the gunfight, and Earp finds himself and his family threatened by the outlaws.

When his brother Morgan is killed, Earp finally takes the oath as a U.S. Marshal, deputizes some renegade outlaws, and sets out to clean up the town of Tombstone once and for all...

Tombstone is a very well made and very under rated Western about a series of events involving infamous lawman Wyatt Earp and his brothers in the town 'Tombstone'.Kurt Russell delivers his best performance as Earp,Val Kilmer is terriffic as his long time friend Doc Holiday,Michael Biehn is the villainous Johnny Ringo and Bill Paxton plays Earps' brother Morgan.A great western and to prove it,watch it along with Kevin Costners' poor film 'Wyatt Earp' released the following year. :-)

 Tombstone vs Wyatt Earp

When Kevin Costner and writer Kevin Jarre started work on a Wyatt Earp movie, they simply couldn't agree on how to tell the story of the legendary lawman, so they parted company and went on to make two very different movies. Waytt Eap is so concerned with being bigger and better and more epic than it's competition that it forgets to be entertaining. The film ends up being a heroic failure - but still gets my recommendation for the performances. Tombstone is the least ambitious of the two Earp movies, but it's by far the best. It is a rip-roating adventure with brilliant action scenes and memorable performances ( Val Kilmer surely deserved an oscar for his turn as Doc Holliday) . But it's Kevin Jarre's brilliant script that is the real star. The dialogue is searing, funny, authentic and as quotable as anything Quentin Tarantino has written: "You gonna do something or just stand there and bleed!" This is one of the best westerns ever made. "I'm your Huckleberry!"

 Good film, But

As my title says but, although Play don't mention it in their description the Special Features mention a DVD-Rom feature & The Tombstone Epitaph, these 2 features ARE NOT included . But there is an easter egg(hidden feature)included to soften the blow.

everyone keeps comparing modern day cowboys films to Clint Eastwood ones and some people don't give new cowboy films a chance because of this.
Kevin Costner had a go at Wyatt Earl and was'nt as good as this,Tombstone has good performances from the whole cast and Val Kilmar was extra good.
This is a good hard hitting, gunshooting movie, lots of action and what you expect from a cowboy movie, not some long winded 3 hour epic but everyone has different taste's
