When two gunmen, Virgil Cole (Ed Harris) and Everett Hitch (Viggo Mortenson), arrive in Appaloosa they find a small, dusty and lawless town suffering at the hands of renegade rancher Randall Bragg (Jeremy Irons). Bragg has not only taken supplies, horses, and women for his own, but also has left the city marshal and a deputy for dead. In Bragg they an unusually wily adversary who raises the stakes by playing with emotions. It is now up to Cole and Hitch to stand against the actions of the renegade rancher, which have already taken their toll on the town.

This is not just a great Western, it's a great film! Within the genre, however, it ranks right at the very top, with a real sense of atmosphere and period. Every detail is just right, even down to the haircuts and the awkwardness with women! The gunfights are just outstanding and are very historically accurate, giving a true sense of the effects of black-powder weapons. The final shootout turns everything you ever thought about western gunfights completely on its head. A superb film, almost as soon as it was finished, I wanted to watch it again! Buy it, keep it, treasure it!

Actor Director Ed Harris has made a truly great western. This is the best western I have seen since Unforgiven. All the cast are brilliant, and the plot is good, but also the added light touch of humor makes this film a real pleasure to watch. Appaloosa should please antbody who loves Western's, and although I'm not such a big fan of the Western, I found this to be a brilliantly entertaining and gripping movie.
One of the most underrated and best films of the year!

How I enjoyed watching this 110 minutes long movie, what a pity that they do not do more often these types of movies. Music soundtrack is brilliant with a fantastic story and great acting. Some really good actors stars Ed Harris, Jeremy Irons, Renée Zellweger, Viggo Mortensenin (remember him in Lord of the Rings in the part of Aragon and also the hit movie 'Hidalgo') this Western/crime/drame movie. Slow pace, sometimes dragging but surely one should not miss this movie.

 Brilliant!!

Great cast and very well acted. Altough its a bit slow, still keeps you standing still till the end. Recomend it to everyone.
