The Big Country is big entertainment, a magnificent Western spectacle of rival Texas cattle barons clashing violently over the water rights of the Big Muddy ranch. Gregory Peck stars as Jim McKay, a sea captain who trades the expanse of the oceans for the open range of the West and grows to regret his choice. Charlton Heston is the menacing Steve Leech, a rugged ranch foreman who loves the land and has a keen eye on McKay's beautiful fiancée...

Includes an Oscar winning performance from Burl Ives.

This is another amazing western that is a must for any western collection!!
Made in 1958 by William Wyler this is amongst some of the great's like The Alamo, How the West Was Won, The Outlaw Josey Wales etc...
There is an all star cast with Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston and Chuck Connors who are all brilliant.
The sceneary is breathtaking with plenty of action and drama and a fantastic musical score even now 50 years on!!
At just £3.99 this is a top deal and an excellent addition to my growing western collection! Nice one Play!!

the big country is indeed the main theme in this classical western of good old bad man versus good old good man, although the best man stands in the middle between these two others.
it's about morality, it's about showing off, it's about 'this is our country, what you as an outsider have to say is of no use to us', it's about revenge, it's about a longlived grudge, it's about... the west!
if anything negative is to be said, it's that this movie lasts a little bit too long (2h.37m).
be prepared for a long ride in the big country.

Got to be one of my favourite westerns. The scenery is breathtaking, great actors and excellant storytelling. Probably, not one of the most action packed westerns you may see, but it packs a punch and cant go wrong with the price.
