5 Simply The Best. Ever.Lochne55 | 10/01/2008 | See all Lochne55's reviews (2)This film is, quite simply, the best (and as it happens, my favourite) movie ever. It's an award-winning and marvellously successful mix of a fabulous script, some quite brilliant acting, alongside superb camera work which brings this story of two anti- heroes to life. Redford - a relative newcomer in 1971 and not the Producer's first choice - is in his element, with dramatic action sequences interspersed with perfect comedic timing. Newman hardly appears to have to act, his part is so eminently playable and he seems to be perfectly at ease throughout. Catherine Ross is simply stunning and the potential ménage a trois is managed to perfection. Sturdy direction from the magnificent George Roy Hill makes this an unmissible film. You cannot help but love these characters and you will watch this one again and again and again. Almost forty years on it's as fresh as the day it first appeared in the cinema and even the recurring "Raindrops" won't put you off! It's mesmerising and unforgettable.
