Called the flop of the year, ridiculed at Cannes, people are maybe not appreciating this film? Scratch that, this film is being buried by everyone, but I gathered a lot from this movie transfer about the renown novel by Dan Brown. The incredulous and unbelievable story of the Da Vinci Code is put across well, and anybody who claims Hanks and Tautou underperformed is wrong in my eyes. More and better could have been expected, sure, but if the story is followed closely sense is made, and if considered, this is an intense thriller that should be seen from an individual's point of view, instead of following everybody's opinions.

I can't understand the stick this gets.

I have read so many reviews that have slagged this film off without mercy and this baffles me.I have read the book and that does help understand the pretty complex plot but this can be enjoyed by anyone regardless as to whether they have prior knowledge or not.
Tom Hanks is absolutely fine in the lead role,in fact I think it is one of his best performances.Ian Mckellen gives the best performance though and dominates virtually every scene he is in .The rest of the cast are fine though the lovely Audrey Tatou does seem lost at times.Ron Howard does a fine job directing this complex film and ties things together well.
Yes,it is maybe a bit on the long side but the locations are great, the music is very good and overall this most definitely doesn't deserve most of the stick that it gets.

For those who read the book, this film is loathed. But if like me you never read the book and woundered what all the fuss was about, it's worth watching. The book was a world wide smash and every body was talking about premise that Christ's bloodline still lives on, and this strongly guarded secret is all hidden in encrypted clues. True all fauls personally I don't give a bugger! but that does not stop this from being a entertaining film, with a great all star cast, that will keep the viewer engaged through it's long running time. Hanks is no Indianna Jones, but plays the part well, and the fun in the film revolves around following the clues to the final revalation. But although a good film, it does have it's seriouse problems, it's too long and the script is baggy, the film takes ages to pick up pace, so for the first forty minutes your left scratching your head waiting to get hooked, or some thing interesting and exciting to happen. But then eventually the cogs do start to turn and draw the viewer in, so stick with it. Also the film is so flatly directed by Ron Howard which is suprising as he does usually show visual flair with the likes of Apollo 13 and Backdraft. So the film feels very unremarkable.
It's not a bad film by any means, infact it's a good movie and gives you a bit more to think about than the usual summer blockbuster. But it thinks it's more important than it actually is.
Don't be put off by some of the harsh reviews, give it a go and make your own mind up!

 Just plain dull

Quite simply one of the worst films I've ever seen. I quite enjoyed the book and thought it was a excting read but nothing more. The filmakers however seem to have another opinion and treated this adaptation like it was some worthy piece of literature demanding of oscar glory. They failed. It's terrible and what should've been a fun romp turned into an overlong dreary exercise in tedium.
Stick to the novel.
