I was dragged, kicking and screaming, to see Jake West's 'Doghouse' by my boyfriend who loved his previous film 'Evil Aliens'.
What can I say. 'Shaun of The Dead' was on such a high pedestal for me before the lights went down.
Now it has been demoted to runner-up.
I laughed so much, I will need to see it again to catch the lines I missed the first time. Correction, I want to see it again!
One of the best films of the year without a doubt, very very funny from start to finish, such a bunch of characters, Danny Dyer is brilliant as usual and is so good at these horror comedy type roles like (severence) jake west has definatly made his best film now since the brilliant evil aliens! this is a gem of a film, a classic horror comedy that you must own.
I have the director's previous 2 films, RAZOR BLADE SMILE and EVIL ALIENS, both are great, but DOGHOUSE is a very funny comedy horror. Danny Dyer, acting his usual persona, is very good and describes the murderous women as 'zombirds'.
Full of funny one liners and overall funny and gory.
Highly recommended.
One more thing, unfortunately for film geeks like myself, there is no audio commentary on the dvd though advertised. Maybe the distributors changed minds who knows? Shame.
Doghouse is the best British horror comedy of the year, it's eveything that Lezbian Vampire Killers promised and failed to be. It's very funny, brilliant one lines and great over the top gore, it's just an outstandingly funny 90 minutes of bloody comic book fun. The cast is great, and the pace of the film is fast and furious. It will be compared to Shaun of the Dead, but it's not quite as good as that, but if you liked Danny Dyer in Severence and the similar The Cottage, with a splattering of Evil Dead, then you'll love every gory minute.
It's a Bloody superb lads night in!
Billed as a "Horor-Comedy", Doghouse is ridiculous, frequently silly, but still enjoyable. Whilst never particularly scary, it is at least a diverting bit of lads' entertainment and it has some nice ideas and delivers several belly laughs - too laddish and corny to even be compared to the witty Shaun Of The Dead, but at least a step up from Lesbian Vampire Killers.
You can imagine a gang of lads writing the plot on a stag night on the back of a beer mat - a group of sexist lads go on a stag weekend only to find all the women are zombies, thus providing the perfect excuse to show women being beaten up by men. Whilst this would normally be inexcusable, it is so tongue-in-cheek that it all feels harmless. An unoriginal but entertaining bit of nonsense - and sometimes.....just sometimes...isn¹t that exactly what you want on a Friday night?
