- Interview with director Jay Lewis
A groundbreaking comedy and a subtle satire of the UK building industry in the 1960s (which is still frighteningly relevant today!), an excellent cast of comedians in their early days (Ronnie Barker, Richard Briers, Peter Butterworth, Bernard Cribbins) will have you rolling in the aisles!

Even though this short film was shot in black and white and is set in the early 1960s, it remains well worth a viewing as it is just as relevant today as when it was first made. The many and varied pitfalls of a building project are hilariously exposed by some wonderfully British character actors, Ronnie Barker, Bernard Cribbins and Richard Briers among them. If you've ever wondered what really goes on when a building project is underway and the imapct it has on the homeowner, then this portrayal of wonderful mishaps and odd goings-on will keep you laughing all the way, most especially as it is unscripted, with merely occasional grunts and groans to achieve maximum comedy effect. Having been the recipient of so called 'improvement works' in my local town of Slough at the hands of my local authority, this film could have been written on the basis of my experience as a homeowner. It's far too near the truth!
