where is that peg to put on my nose? there is a stink in here.oh its the film.saw this on its release.should have known what i was in for when ice cube plays a character called `desolation wilson`(or williams-i forget).the undead on mars are possessed by a spirit which hops from body to body so killing the host wont work.hey ! guess what everyone does ? rrrrrright,shoots the ones possessed.they are easy to spot,they all look like marilyn manson.carpenter was one of my fave directors till he came up with this and they live.

Let's face it, if you don't like his previous work, i.e. The Thing. Then you won't like this one.

But for the rest of us, it's one of his best with a his usual balance of horror, surpense and sci-fi. The story is simple, yet still intriguing, carried well by the cast, especially it's two leads as they exchange insults throughout the film.

The supporting cast includes Jason Stratham, starting his entrance into hollywood, whilst providing some needed cockney humor and attitude to ease the suspence.

All in all, this is a good movie especially for a quiet evening with a few beers.

It is very common that John Carpenters films get a lot of beating when they get out. When 'The Thing' was released, it was shot to the ground, 'Escape From New York' got beat up, 'The Fog' was a disaster etc. Look at those films today... They are true classics and some of the best on the marked. Okay, 'Vampires' DID suck, but what about 'Ghosts of Mars'?

The story is a classic Carpenter; the group of people who faces the unknown - Not the most original setup but so what, it works! 'Ghosts of Mars' is not a straight horror film. It is a cocktail of great action, cool science fiction and minor horror/gore. The effects are also typical Carpenter: not the best, but still looking cool. The gore is extremely well made and especially the piercing scenes really get to you! The score is the one of the most important things of this film; it makes just the right mood and just screams for action!

And the acting is awesome;

- Natasha Henstridge is surprisingly good as Lt. Melanie Ballard, and proves that she can carry an action film without any problems.

- Ice Cube does his usual actionman as James 'Desolation' Williams, but still a great job.

- Joanna Cassidy couldn't be better as the doctor, who unleashes the ghosts.

- But above all of them is OVERLY cool Jason Statham as Sgt. Jericho Butler. He is one of the most underrated actors of all time!

- The only actor, who never finds her role, is Clea DuVall as one of the rookies. She doesn't seem to fit in an action film. Unfortunately.

'Ghosts of Mars' have been called the most awful things, among others "a disaster". But just give it time. In 20 years, this film will be much more appreciated than it is today. I still love this film as a slam-bam action flick - watch it and make up your own mind.

Ghosts of Mars is weired but the acting and the scenes were superb - I know it was gory but nobody really dies it is just a film.

well this was boring - no plot, awful acting, i don't think therre was a script and the actors made up this drivil as they went along - might as well of shown it on mars might of got a better reception up there - Ice cube stop making films and just disappear - that would do us all a favor!!!!

this is the most boring and awful film i have ever watched, not worth anything, in fact they should pay you to watch this. not deserving of any stars, so theyre lucky you cant go any lower than 1.
