A prizewinner at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival for Originality of Vision, Brick is Rian Johnson's debut feature as writer and director and stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Mysterious Skin), Lukas Haas (Last Days) and Emilie de Ravin (Lost).
Brendan Frye is a loner, someone who knows all the angles but has chosen to stay on the outside. When the girl he loves turns up dead, he is determined to find the "who" and "why" and plunges into the dark and dangerous social strata of rich girl Laura, intimidating Tug, drug-addled Dode, seductive Kara, and the ominous Pin. But who can he really trust?
Brick turns the American high-school genre on its head, injecting hard boiled dialogue and a classic film noir style reminiscent of The Maltese Falcon and Chinatown. An original, absorbing mystery that will leave you spellbound.

This is one of those rare films that comes quietly outta no where amongst all the mundane Hollywood stuff and reminds me why I love cinema so damn much.
First time Writer / director Rian Johnson has done an amazing job with this, the dialog is snappy, the characters are memorable and well-defined and cinematography is inspired.
My favourite film of 2005 I think
O... so THIS is how films should be made...

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is one damn fine piece of film. The lovely Nora Zehetner aside, this film not only boasts possibly the best young cast of 2005, but also possibly the best script, (EXCELLENTLY penned and bitch-slapped to the screen by first-timer Rian Johnson, whose set pieces are nothing short of stunning) and without a doubt the most intriguing and entertaining array of characters you are likely to see for a long, long, lengthy while.
When this film finished the entire room exhaled as if it was the first chance we had to do so for two hours. THAT is how a film should leave its audience.

Fantastic

This is a great film, very well written and beautifully acted (especially by Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Highly recomended.
