This is one of those rare films that comes quietly outta no where amongst all the mundane Hollywood stuff and reminds me why I love cinema so damn much.
First time Writer / director Rian Johnson has done an amazing job with this, the dialog is snappy, the characters are memorable and well-defined and cinematography is inspired.
My favourite film of 2005 I think

This is a great film, very well written and beautifully acted (especially by Joseph Gordon-Levitt). Highly recomended.

The story may be good and well written but the acting was awfully weak. Didn't grip me in the slightest, one of those films you just wish would end.

Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars An instant indie cult classic...

Blending high school drama with classic noir fiction may not seem like an obvious choice but, after watching Rian Johnson's outstanding 'Brick', you'll be wondering why everyone isn't doing the same. A triumph on every single level - expertly structured, written, directed and scored, Brick is a movie that you should watch as soon as possible...

Customer rating: 4 out of 5 stars An awesome little movie

I originally heard about this movie a few months ago but it slipped from my memory and it was only seeing it on display whilst doing my monday night dvd buying which triggered off some brain cells which told me i should purchase this, so i did and i was not disapointed! The film follows the character Brendan (the kid from 3rd rock from the sun) who gets a strange call from his ex-girlfriend asking for his help, she sounded very distressed so he decided that he will help her. From here he embarks on a detective type mission trying to track her down and her recent movements until 2 days after she is found dead in the running water under a bridge. Knowing that she was into drugs in a big way he enlists his only friend Brain who is some uber smart kid at school, as the film continues the plot thickens with brendan getting more than one beating along the way, with several more interesting characters popping up. The ending will have you feeling satisfied with its conclusions and perhaps revelation. This is writer/director Rian Johnson's debut feature and it certainly makes the college murder mystery seem like an original idea with its fast moving intelligent dialogue, its beautifully filmed scenes which show the director has a clear idea of the grandure of each scene which excellent use of lighting and placement of the actors. Infact this must be one of the best debut films i have ever seen, if you have a chance i strongly reccomend that you watch this film. Although be warned! the dialogue is very quick and a lot of slang is used which can make it difficult to understand whats happening at times
