Yes - it is. Citizen Kane, Seven Samuri, The Godfather Pt2 - forget it, its Big Troub all the way. Like everyone else I watched this on a VHS tape back in the late 80's and it still sets the bench mark for a great way to spend a couple of hours - laughs, thrills, monsters, kung fu, ghosts, Jack Burton - it has the lot. The dvd has the added bonus of listening to JC and Kurt Russell talk about their kids and careers on the commentry. Indeeeed!
80s great

Director John Carpenter's early films (Halloween, The Thing, Escape From New York etc..) all have cult followings, and this venture into the action adventure genre is no different. Kurt Russell adds another classic character to his C.V with Jack Burton, a hero who is accident prone, and a has a tendency to come up with a few cheesy lines. This film is great with a few mates, and pack of beer on a Saturday night - loads of action, classic lines from Mr Russell ("It's all in the Reflexes!"), the lovely Kim Catrall, and some cheesy monsters thrown in for good measure! Don't take it seriously, and you'll have a good time. The dvd itself presents the film in its original 2.35:1 widescreen ratio (enhanced for 16 X 9 t.vs), has 4.0 surround sound, and is now fully uncut in the U.K - the cinema and VHS releases were both cut for bad language and violence. The commentary with Carpenter and Russell is just as enjoyable as the film itself (they clearly enjoy working together). The 2nd disc has deleted scenes (which you will probably watch once), a 7 minute 'making of' from 1986, an interview with the special effects creator, a few trailers, and the usual fillers. Overall, this dvd is well worth a fiver of anyones money!

Another John Carpenter classic thats full of cheese with supernatural action and comedy, again with the witty Kurt Russell. This partnership works well together, as in Escape from New York, and the finished product is another very entertaining film you can't get enough of.
I had been looking for this film for a while and came across the 1dvd version which i would have paid the £4.99 asking price quite happily, then i saw this the 2dvd Special with bonus material at the same price. No guessing which one i bought, what a bonus!! An excellent addition to my fast growing collection,
Nice one Play keep these bargains coming!!
Excellent Entertainment

This is such a mixture of genre's but it works superbly, proper popcorn enterainment, which doesn't take itself too seriously but works better because of it.
80's Action and Comedy at it's very best, wish they made them like this now... If you've never seen this film, it's an essential purchase if you like adventure films
It's all in the reflexes!!

I love the Kurt Russell/John Carpenter collaborations and would encourage people to start with either this or Escape From New York. It is dated, at times ludicrous and totally over the top, but since when did that stop a movie from being good?

"Yes sir the cheque is in the mail."
Russell and Carpenter send up John Wayne and Howard Hawks in this box office flop that the Americans just didn't get on its initial release.
Carpenter brings together every genre he can think of and the result is action packed and hilarious. Russell is at his best with some priceless moments which make a mockery of his character at every turn.
Arnie would try the same thing in The Last Action Hero some years later; but Russells charm and sheer stupidity make this the best deconstruction of the American Action Movie about.
Excellent commentary on the dvd which had me in stitches.
Awesome fun, Russell at his best.

Kurt Russell. John Carpenter. At the top of their respective trees. 80s classic. Chases, monsters, ghosts, magicians, kung fu- what more could you ask? All with a long tongue planted firmly in its cheek. Real quality viewing over and over again on a good disc.

This for me is a classic 80's film which i watched numerous times in late 80's and never got tired of viewing. Kurt Russell is fantastic as lorry driver 'Jack Burton' who loses his truck whilst rival gangs in China are fighting, whilst his best friend's girlfriend gets kidnapped. This leads to both men wanting to find what they have lost which leads to magic, martial arts, mystical creatures, wizards and Kim catrall! The film is virtually non stop action all the way with added humour so for pure light entertainment and escapism for a couple of hours sit back and watch this
