they are expecting people to pay nearly a tenner for some black and white nonsense haha.even if it was on tv for free i doubt anyone would watch this old blak and white rubbish when we have the brilliant david tennant and i guess even matt smith is ok as the doctor who is full living high definition colour.its possible almost at a push i could understand someone buying some later doctor who episodes say peter davison onwards but even then, really.low budget,no effectsno acting, bad camera work and just a really dragged on story.have you seen the length of this, who could sit for that long staring at a colourless screen, wow

 Farewell to the Second Doctor

The Second Doctor, as played by Patrick Troughton, is without doubt the greatest incarnation of the Time Lord. And this, his final story in the role, certainly does him justice. Episodes 1 - 9 are set during World War I... or are they? Actually, the Doctor and his wonderful companions, Jamie (Frazer Hines) and Zoe (Wendy Padbury) have found themselves in the middle of a war game being played by a race of aliens called the War Lords, watched over by the villanous War Chief who, like the Doctor, is a Time Lord, and seems to me to be the direct precursor to the arrival of the Doctor's archenemy, the Master...

This story serves as a dramatic and poignant anti-war story, led by the concept that the War Lords, out of all the races in the universe, chose Humans to play the games with. We have the most wars to choose from. We have more wars even than the Cybermen or the Daleks?

Episode 10 is extremely saddening, and may well bring tears to your eyes. I won't ruing the circumstances for those of you unaware, but as the scenes of the Doctor bidding farewell forever to his companions are very well done, and you honestly believe the sadness felt between the characters when the time comes.

The extras are, as always, awesome. This story is a must have for any Doctor Who enthusiast, and would even be a great place to start for anyone unfamiliar to the world of the Whovians...

This is one of the great Pat Troughton stories, long but well acted. There are 3 easter eggs (one per disc) and on the second disc the egg is the Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppett Theatre's take on the regeneration. The extras are great.

Buy It!

OH MY GOD!!!! This is a brilliant, Alot of the Troughton episodes are fantastic like Invasion i wrote a review for that but they didnt put it on and i cant find it anywhere, but it is such a shame that episodes like Dalek master plan, power of the daleks, wheel in space and moonbase are missing, i wish they would be found another anoying thing is episodes like web of fear are still on video and not on DVD so anoying! But i think that Patrick has some of the best doctor who episodes ever!!

Be prepared to sacrifice a whole weekend!

this is by far the greatest dr who dvd release so far out of the whole range. the extra's range from funny to tearjerking, with special appearances from people like the glamorous Kate O Mara.
The story itself may be long, but you don't realise, as its fast pacing and brilliant acting grasp your attention from beginning to end.
For those people who think black and white is boring, watch this and it will change your mind forever!

 Excellent

A great story that doesn't drag despite its length. Philip Madoc is great as the War Lord. A particularly good making of documentary on the extras. The best Doctor Who release in a while in my opinion.

 Fantastic Troughton!

A great package - although little is left complete of Troughton's era at least this survived as is essential for all Who fans' collections. The first mention of the Time Lords, great villains, good story (albeit 4 episodes too long), fun characters. 2 Entertain have done this release justice with fun commentaries, excellent restoration and great featurettes. It will seem dated to fans of the new series but you can't deny that Troughton was excellent and Maloney was one of the best directors. Highly recommended.

The Most Exciting Dr Who Release Ever

I suspect that if you don't like this you are probably not a fan. I know it' could of been shorter and you will be keen to seen episode 10 but this should be savoured. If you really have to just watch episode 10 first and then you can watch the rest without that itch. This story Troughton is his fantastic self right to the end. Dicks and Hulke would be legends of Doctor Who even if this was all they did and the went on to so much more.

 Goodbye to the TARDIS Trio

I agree with other reviewers,10 episodes is a long haul but the three regulars The Doctor(Patrick Troughton)Jamie(Frazer Hines)and Zoe(Wendy Padbury)keep our interest with their great on screen chemistry, and a great script by Malcolm Hulke and Terrance Dicks, not to mention great direction by David Maloney.
I just love the last episode,The Doctor tells the Time Lords off,the sad farewell of Jamie and Zoe,only allowed to remember their first adventure, meaning Jamie will forget Victoria(Deborah Watling)and Zoe.
Be great to own this on DVD!
