Smash Cut is the dizzying portrayal of Able Whitman (David Hess, The Last House on the Left) a troubled filmmaker losing his mind in an extraordinary way. After his latest "serious" film is met with gales of laughter, Able decides to drown his sorrows at a local strip club--where he meets dancer Gigi Spot. Minutes later, he's convinced her to star in his next project. Minutes after that, he's killed her in a drunk driving accident. Needing to dispose of the body, Able stumbles upon the one place nobody would notice a corpse...spread around the set of his new horror film. When the response to his new footage is praised for its realism, the guilt ridden Able has a complete mental breakdown. Believing he has finally discovered the key to making a great horror film, the director quickly discovers that one human body doesn't yield a lot of parts, and if he wants to finish, he's going to have to keep on killing. Also starring Sasha Grey (The Girlfriend Experience) and Michael Berryman (The Hills Have Eyes).

im suprised nobody has wrote a review for this yet, its rather a great horror film, it has some very twisted humour in it along side the tons of gore, its all done in an old skool way with a low budget but is very good and very funny at times amongst the ridiculous amounts of blood! it even has a B-movie quality to it really! worth checking out for all horror fans! it also has a brilliant cast of actors who have been around the horror business for a while.

To put it simply...it's a very enjoyable and funny movie, starring the ever-fantastic David Hess and the gorgeous Sasha Grey.

I'm surprised Smash Cut isn't more well known. I only discovered it from checking out the David Hess website but I'm glad I did find out about it. Buy it now!

Smash Cut is a smashing homage to the Wizard of Gore

Who said all low-budget horror films are crap? Canadian filmmaker Lee Demarbre has come up with a tongue-in-cheek homage to the wizard of gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis, that actually works.

If you're not familiar with HGL's oeuvre, he was responsible for a host of sicko schlock movies throughout the 1960s featuring girls in bikinis, buckets of obviously fake blood, and piles of rubbery dismembered body parts.

In Smash Cut, Demarbre lets loose his inner cine-freak desires and sets out to emulate HGL, complete with a cameo from the schlock impresario himself.

So roll on the story: Embittered director Able Whitman (played by Last House on the Left actor David Hess) turns to using real human body parts in his new project when his latest film flops because of the cheap special effects. But hot on his case is local TV news reporter April (former porn star Sasha Grey) and private eye Isaac Beaumonde (Jesse Buck).

Sit back and enjoy the body count, the terrible actors trying to out ham each other, the corny one-liners and the little nods to cinema history (including a great soundtrack that pays homage to composers like Ennio Morricone, and a cameo from The Hills Have Eyes star Michael Berryman - in a bad wig).

Pass the popcorn - and a sick bag.

 A low budget romp

I had hoped for high things from this homage to the works of Herschell Gordon Lewis. Sadly it didn't quite live up to expectations. Don't get me wrong I understood going in that this would be a low budget romp. I was just expecting a little more comedy. The plot revolves around a horror director whose starts killing people and using their body parts as props in his new flick. Amusing to start with but after a certain point, the movie seems to get on a treadmill and I found myself getting a little bored. David Hess gives us the psycho-killer experience as only he can. Porn scarlet Sasha Grey can clearly act. But sadly she would probably have had a more challenging role in Face Invaders 4 than she does in this. There are some nice cameos from Michael Berryman, Ray Sager and Herschell Gordon Lewis himself.
