From acclaimed director Luc Besson comes the hard-hitting, action-packed thriller, Leon.

Gary Oldman plays a corrupt government official whose maniacal greed leads to murder on the streets of New York. A deadly game of cat and mouse ensues when he crosses paths with a lone hitman named Leon. Caught in the middle is an orphaned 12-year-old girl, who can't forgive or forget the man who killed her family.

With sharp execution and cunning force, Leon delivers exceptional drama and suspense right from the word go!

The extra scenes are worth it.

I snapped this up straight away as it seems to be difficult sometimes to get Leon on dvd, let alone the directors cut. I was a tad dubious about whether to get this version or not as there's usually a reason why stuff is cut out and I didn't want to ruin what is an already brilliant film. There is about 10-20 minutes of cut footage reinserted and let your worries drift away as they do not disappoint. The only reason they were taken out of the original release is because the Americans wouldn't be able to handle it, whereas the French and English didn't see a problem with it. The extra scenes give you some background into Leon's past and it develops his relationship with Mathilda a lot more. The extra scenes weren't at all boring and it all just made for a better viewing experience. I'm not sure whether the music at the beginning of the film has changed as it did seem odd and very distracting in places and I don't remember it being like that, but that soon passes anyway. The dvd is presented well with a couple of documentaries that are pretty good. It's a shame there were no interviews with either Gary Oldman or the director who's vision it was, and I don't accept Besson's ex girlfriend as a decent substitute! All in all, an amazing film just made even more amazing by it being put back to it's original glory, how it should have been viewed in the first place. Some might find the odd scene uncomfortable with the two of them but it's all innocent from his side as the extra footage and features will show. If only Besson would write a 'Mathilda' sequel!

 DC even better!

Never saw the Directors Cut before and have to say it actually improved an already outstanding film. Developed the relationship between Leon & Matilda really well, though I can see how the American censor would have problems with it while us emotionally secure Europeans wouln't bat an eyelid!

 An absolute classic.

I saw this movie at the cinema when it first came out, and loved it so much I subsequently wore out my VHS copy of it, as I kept coming back to it again and again. Everything about it is perfect, the acting, the plot, the soundtrack by Eric Serra, everything. Its good to see a contemporary movie with which you get emotionally attached to the characters.
Jean Reno is perfect as the assassin,Leon; Gary Oldman is as mental as ever as the corrupt DEA cop; and Natalie Portman is excellent as Matilda. Credit though must go to Luc Besson, who puts all of the parts together admirably to create a modern classic.
Quentin Tarantino should take some time to watch this movie, if he hasn't allready, as it shows how a good movie should be made.

I missed this at the cinema on it's release, but when I saw it on video it was such a different kind of film. Stunning visuals, utterly believable characters, it's hard not to get emotional as it is not just a thriller, it's also a love story woven into it. I bought the International Precut version region 1 over seven years ago, and what a hugh difference it makes. You understand the relationship between Leon and Mathilda and that makes the final scenes so poignant, Shape of my Heart by Sting at the end just kills you. In my top 5 forever. You just have to see to understand.

 and.... action !!!!!
