Oasis

Oasis is a strange movie to get your head around, although its a fairly simple story is hard to decide what you feel for the characters and its hard to know exactly what you're rooting for.
At the beginning the movie makes you pity and like the lead character, it then makes you loath him and truly hate the person he is but before the movie is out you pity him and wish for him to be happy.
Director/writer Lee Chang-Dong does something very brave with this story, not only is the male lead a character who is slightly mentally disabled but the female lead has severe cerebal palsy. During the first half of the movie these disabilities cause some problems for the viewer as its hard to relate to the characters but through time you get into the movie and you really start to care.
Oasis is ultimately a movie about two people who are both outcast from society due to circumstances they cannot fully be held responsible for. We're shown how the characters are treated by their families and the way in which soceity views them.

Overall: Oasis is a very good movie. At first all you can think is "this is interesting", you find it hard to enjoy as its not the easiest movie to relate to the lead characters but stick with it and by the end you'll be on their side.
Well written, well directed and well acted out, a good movie. At times this movie will make you feel uncomfortable with the scenes you'll see but its a powerful tool the director uses to get his point across.
It's ultimately a touching and yet tragedy tale of two victims, by the time the end credits start to roll you'll already be in deep thought and self analysis.
